@Rapido not all of them...
True. Cop cars were able to run down about 75% of escapees.

can someone smarter than me tell me why, with case numbers increasing, the numbers of serious cases in ICU are not?
Better at treatment and managing symptoms because now we know better what to defend against (hypoxia is a big issue). Also the messaging around avoidance is better, and explaining what high risk is in terms of susceptibility has improved, so people who will do poorly with it, take better precautions to avoid it than early on.
There are also researchers suggesting that some strains have evolved to be less dangerous since the ones which don't cause symptoms are less likely to be found and isolated until they die off.

It’s all about cases vs known cases. I think it’s fair to sssume they are capturing most UK cases now. The rules are strict, clear and getting a test is a piece of piss. You only need one symptom and you get tested. Kids got a fever? Tested. So that’s around 1000 cases per day picked up.
Hospital admissions are around 30 per day. Or 3%. Deaths are around 4-7. So 0.5% ish.
At its peak, we were 1000 dead per day. With around 3-5000 hospital admissions Yet, the official numbers were only 5,000 cases per day. This was clearly bullshit. I know around 20 ppl who have had it. All around the peak snd none of them were tested.
Reality is that 5,000 cases per day was really more like 200,000. No that’s not a typo. That’s just the reality.
And why I don’t fear the second wave,

@MajorRage I made the mistake of listening to LBC on the radio in the car the other day (major UK talkback radio station) and the host (James O'Brien) who is strong leftie and pro-lockdown was complaining that the government was considering reopening schools when "we still have 1000 deaths per day from coronavirus".
At this point people just make up whatever numbers they like to suit their narrative.

The only way to survive mentally in this country is to minimise the news / coverage that you consume. There is far far too much bullshit, and very little fact.
Every outlet seemed keen to keep everybody at home, push people harder and harder when it was 500+ deaths a day. And that's fair. But now that it's only 4 deaths per day (roughly 1%, if that, of what Cancer causes) ... where is the coverage to lift peoples spirits?
EDIT. And you got what you deserve if you listen to James. Same goes for Owen Jones. Who's currently releasing a book about the magnificence of the Corby movement. Which he describes as, and this is not a joke, "the only hope for humanity".

Its based on a quote from the head of WHO (why the head of WHO links the 2 is beyond me)
“According to Tedros, COVID-19 is really about global warming,” said Carlson.
The director of the WHO has stated that “the COVID-19 pandemic has given new impetus to the need to accelerate efforts to respond to climate change.”
-
You say it is based on a quote from Tedros - show us the quote. Not Carlson saying he said it Tedros saying it.
I've done a google and there is nothing from Tedros just plenty of other right wing blogs regurgitating Carlson's claim.
I've been on the WHO website. Nothing.
There is stuff about climate change being a danger to human health because of increasing climate events, the spread of range for mosquito born disease and the like - but nothing that I could see that has any sort of link, causality or mention of, or with, COVID.
It's almost like Carlson makes stuff up to promote his point of view....

....so the full context of what he said was the lockdowns have given us a chance to see whats its like with lower air pollution, cleaner water ways etc and this should/could lead to renewed efforts against climate change
that seems fair enough

No its not. Climate change is (supposedly) about reducing CO2 levels.
If he said we should directly focus on reducing air pollution and cleaner water I would support it (although not by linking this virus and a collapsing economy to this aim). And as long as it also including China and all the countries in the world. Including those that tip plastic into our oceans. And as long as the money given (by the likes of NZ) was clearly accounted for.
Edit. And I don't want to debate CC. That's been done to death and at this point no one will change their mind. Its just that the head of WHO linking the 2 is interesting.

ok, i listened to the link above and i didn't hear any connection between CC and COVID other than the lockdowns and subsequent reduction in pollution from industries shutting down has given us a glimpse of what the world could be like
“The Covid-19 pandemic has given us a glimpse of our world as it could be: cleaner skies and rivers.”

That's because you're not thinking clearly enough
