I’d say any games held in Japan would have to finish before the end of June. Even then, it would be warm, but shouldn't be over 30 (could happen though).
any reason we can't play Super in the hot weather though? I mean they played League 9s ... it's just faster. The grounds these days are soft and well watered, so shouldn't be an impediment. Maybe night rugby is the way to go - hot, but not ridiculous, and no sun to cook the players?
Doing some research, Weatherspark shows this for Tokyo - that up to June it's usually not too bad at night

I've played a rep game at 36 degrees at 2pm on a Tropical summers day, so the humidity was through the roof. I played 80 minutes, and i nearly fucking died. It's incredibly stressful on your body even at that level, and even if you live here. At Super rugby speed, having flown in from say, Dunedin, someone would cook themselves.

The other thing is, over summer, won't that make kick-off times 11pm NZ time?

@mariner4life you're right -- but if we can live with Perth and SA, we can live with an 11pm game every second week.
Edit: if we can play afternoon games in Brisbane in February, I reckon we could send folk up there every second year. I'm talking myself into HTFU. Kinda like sending the Sri Lankan and Indian cricket teams to Dunedin in October ... it's home advantage y'all

I think that playing it over the regular Super season is really pushing it - it finished the first weekend of July last year which should really be the limit.
I think it was in 2017 that the competition played through July and the Blues got smashed - not only because of the heat - but certainly helped a long by it. I didn’t go to that game because I didn’t want to sit outside in it!
Night games would help, but if it’s in July it could be hammering down in 30 degree heat with 90% humidity. So, not exactly a great product.
So, there are some problems with having Japanese teams that would need sorting out - season timing would be crucial.

It doesn't really matter. Top League are only interested in some sort of Champions League tie-in.
Actually whether that it top league, or JRFU, or (only some individuals) inside JRFU I'm not sure.

@Kiwiwomble more than happy to watch all of the NZ sides thrash the Aussie sides again if that's what they want. The best part is how all of the NZ rugby fans will be laughing when it's 4 kiwi sides making the top 4 because Aussie wanted 5 teams.

Problem is the same as NZ, 5 times is not sustainable in the desired time frame, and there is not enough money to be made on it. Maybe next year we might have to again, but going forward it needs to be bigger.

I kinda agree with you, but it really does dilute the product. I wouldn't bother with some matches when the outcome is a foregone conclusion. Viewing numbers fall, attendances at the ground fall. A shit product is a shit product, so do we all have to suffer through mediocrity and just wait for the finals?

@Snowy It’s a poont but it’s not as bad as when you had the SW and the extra SA teams (Kings FFS). Cos then you have time zone and travel effects, both in costs and lack of viewing. I think the Ozzie idea of 5+5 next year, and add PI and maybe another the year after is the best. I’d prefer Oz to only have 3, but that does not reflect reality. We can’t have a PI tema next year, cos they’ll just be dregs like SW, and will get smashed every week. And if they are based in AKL, how TF are they a PI Team?
