Highlanders 2020

So I was out in Qtn one night a number of years ago, midweek, and several of the Highlanders of the time were out and getting stuck in. But when it was starting to get messy, Jamie Mackintosh took them away. Like any situation like that, a group needs senior management be they players or actual managers in a business sense, who can see when enough is enough and control things. I bet they didn't have that person who could keep a lid on it. And if they did, they need their fucking ass kicked.

it was Aaron Smith who was supposed to be in charge. But he went to the toilet, and took too long to come back

@canefan I guess I'll not be too demanding and settle for just Liz...
After the first 5 minutes of the sandwich you could just sit back and watch
Steady on. It's not a fucking marathon.

@Tim disappointing but no real surprise
-
What a dud signing.
-
id only be real mad if we spent a fortune on him, give his situation and his late signing im hoping we picked him up on the cheap on a gamble and given our either lack or green x factor out wide i dont blame them too much
-
@Kiwiwomble would have much preferred they gambled on someone who at least had a chance to show something.
Everyone knew it was a shit signing, everyone pointed and laughed... except those in charge at the Highlanders.
Heck even getting a loan of Jonah Lowe would have been better.
-
@Bones you honestly believe they signed him knowing full well there was zero change he would make it onto the field?
-
just managed to actually read the article, so he is back to full contact training but he need to prove hes good enough to take someones jersey...its not like he's picked up a new injury (yet)
-
@Kiwiwomble I hope they signed him thinking there was every chance he'd hardly even make the field and really wouldn't add much if he did.
If everyone else can see it, how moronic would they have to be to not see it? The kind of moronic which doesn't select Walden and thinks Ioane is a 12.
-
@Bones i'm not even sure what that first sentence means...

I'm not sure what part of perfect English you're struggling with...
-
@Bones you want them to have signed NMS to do nothing?

No, otherwise I would've said that...
-
@Bones thats what it sounds lie you said...

"I hope they signed him" - self explanatory
"thinking there was every chance" - intent in the coaches mind
" he'd hardly even make the field and really wouldn't add much if he did" - he wouldn't do much -

" he'd hardly even make the field and really wouldn't add much if he did" - he wouldn't do muchReplace thinking with understanding then.
-
@Bones is that better? you wanted them to sign him in the full understanding he wouldn't contribute much?
-
you might have expected it if you had a low opinion of the coaches but to hope they did it?

Jesus wept, are you blind to the words "there was every chance"?

Annnnd we come back to my first post. Moronic if they didn't understand he'd most likely be a dud. Which would you rather?
-
@Bones its more the fact you wanted it to happen im struggling with
can we honestly not believe they, having actually seen him train and seen his medicals etc, thats they made decision in good faith?
-

I suggest you struggle some more. Never have I said I wanted it to happen.

-
@Kiwiwomble @Bones fuck you 2 are being painful! Get a bloody room!!!
Bones is saying he hopes the coaches and admin went into the signing with their eyes open, paying him accordingly and not putting any significant team-improving expectations on his shoulders.
Is that clear to everyone?
-
@voodoo I quite enjoy @Bones and @Kiwiwomble's domestics they always seem to have on here. They both love each other deep down.
-
I can see believing they would if you dont like the coaches....or believing they made the call hoping him to contribute and were then proved wrong despite the best of intentions
no idea why anyone would want them to deliberately sign someone they knew wouldnt or was highly unlikely to contribute...but if that make sense to everyone else then fair play, must be over my head
-
@African-Monkey i'll only concede i like some good rugby chat...the rest goes unsaid

Yeah, interesting way to read there. I reckon if you pull all sorts of sentences apart they mean something different. Well done on discovering that.
Simple concept yet so hard to grasp eh? If they didn't realise he was probably a dud signing, before they signed him. They're morons. You'd prefer they signed him in the belief he was going to be a superb addition?
-
@Bones yeah, I’d rather believe the blokes that have actually evaluated him first hand made a call that there was a chance he’d be a good signing
I see that as a better option than our coaches are so shit they signed someone knowing he was dud...we can all claim we knew for a fact...but we didn’t, only those guys knew one way or the other
Just because speculation comes to fruition doesn’t mean it was a forgone conclusion
-
@Kiwiwomble said in Highlanders 2020:

Facepalm. You've literally just used the word you are failing to see in what I wrote.
-
@Bones I saw it
But you said you wanted them to do it think there was the chance he wouldn’t do anything and o said I wanted them to have done thinking there was every chance he WOULD do something
-
@Kiwiwomble said in Highlanders 2020:

Then they're morons.
-
I’m Over it, I don’t actually enjoy bagging the team I support

Haha yeah, me too, what a great decision, hopefully they can extend his contract.
-
@Bones he signed for two years I think...so we have all next year for him to earn a spot too
-
I wonder if there could ever be a punch up between two Ferners if they met up?
