NZ hosting the Rugby Championship this year? Woudl be awesome!
I read somewhere this afternoon (I've not been able to find it again), that if this goes ahead, the ABs will only be available for the first three rounds of Mitre 10 Cup.
-
@nzzp My comment was more about if the RC is hosted in NZ then NZR would probably schedule the AB games as they were to be pre-covid to avoid having to refund any season members from the main test venues. NZ vs Arg was to be played in Hamilton.
All Blacks v Australia, 7.35PM, Saturday 15 August, Sky Stadium, Wellington All Blacks v Argentina, 7.35PM, Saturday 29 August, FMG Stadium Waikato, Hamilton All Blacks v South Africa, 7.35PM, Saturday 5 September, Eden Park Auckland
The other games between Aust, SA and Arg would likely be played at the largest stadiums to maximise revenue for all countries.

SA should play at Albany mostly. Browns bay is just down the road and is Joburg by the sea, would be plenty of support.
Without the shootings, muggings, rape and carjacking
Browns Bay is a pretty rough hood bro. Some people don't even drink lattes.

I used to work up that way. Scarred me for life mate, that's why I never step out without my Glock

I don't know what test rugby we'll end up with by October.
A TRC based in NZ, a TRC in Perth? Or god-forbid 4 Bledisloes.
If I was NZRU, based on current covid conditions, I would try to arrange a Bledisloe 3-test tour to NZ, with 3 midweek matches v provinces.
Seems to me the 'safest' option - in terms of reducing chances of it all going arse up, and the only way to make the Bledisloe very palatable (for me) ..... is to make it into a tour, not just a 3-match series. 3 Midweek matches v 3 lucky provinces.
Revenue share with the Aussies - as they would play all away.
Too much unknown with the other 2 SANZAAR partners for this year, how can you plan if don't know if any pro rugby will take place for their players before the TRC? Jaguares are scattering to the 4 winds. Too hard, too risky.
A lot can change by October, either positively or negatively. But need to plan on a practical basis on today's likely conditions. 1 squad tour in 1 direction, 1 quarantine period. Crowds (hopefully still).
-
Anyway. I think the only realistic options on the table is how many Bledisloes they try to organise. Will it be 2, 3 or 4. Will it be home and away? or just in a covid-freeish, crowd capable (at the time of planning) country.
I'm putting forward a way to make a shit idea ( a possible 4 match bledisloe series) into a good idea.
That will cost less than zig-zagging 2 teams over the Ta$man with qurantines for both teams both ways.
Expanded tour squad for midweek matches costs same (in numbers) as 2 test squads travelling home and away.
That will make more money than a behind closed doors match in Sydney.
Gets 6 matches of content instead of 3 or 4. -

Aust was to have the 2 home BC tests this year so giving us a second home game would be a concession, particularly if we are the only country allowed crowds.
I agree that a lot of planning would be needed if the RC was held in NZ. One of the most important issues would be kickoff times to satisfy the SA and Arg home markets. Whatever SANZAAR finally chooses will be about maximising revenue through TV broadcasting rights and ticket sales.
