FIrst class records mean nothing ( well not nothing, but next to nothing ). What you're saying is there's not a great deal between them as batsmen, however Anderson has the bowling strong to his bow which Brownlie doesn't.

Sure I would pick Anderson because he bowls. If I wasn't going to pick a spinner and was picking 4 quicks then I wouldn't pick Anderson because I don't see the advantage of a 5th quick. I would have picked Brownlie to bat 5 over Nicholls. I also would have picked Brownlie to open ahead of Guptill. I think Brownlie is significantly better with the bat than Anderson. However, given Hesson thinks Nicholls is better than Brownlie to bat 5 I can see why they wouldn't go for Brownlie at 6.

Also how do you pick a team without looking at their domestic records?
-

I think FC records mean a great deal when you are playing tests on home soil. Batting well in the conditions is a pretty important factor when selecting a side I would think.

-
Boom there it is.

First loss at home in just under 4 years,4 years, and people are suggesting changing things willy nilly. A stand out feature of our shit years, so yeah lets just bring any old Brownlie or Munro in and discard the players that have given us success.

That'll work -

I don't think Anderson and Bracewell have been major players in that success.

Their selections deserve to be questioned.

And although Craig has won a couple of tests for us in the 4th innings... he's generally been shit
-

Well in some cases in NZ guys are picked having played next to no first class cricket, Dan Vettori anyone ?

of course you pick guys based on it but it shouldn't be the be and end all, plenty of guys have outstanding first class records that have never stepped up a level for whatever reason.
-

Anderson is definitely a better batsman than Craig. Craig has relied on not outs for his average. Anderson can bat at number 6, he just has to contribute with the ball. He is not one of the 6 best batsmen in New Zealand.

To be fair often hes left not out because the muppets at the other end throw it away (as the case in Wellington)

At this stage he seems a better and certainly a more effective batsman than as a spin bowler. Is there a case for him to do a Richardson ?? Not saying he will become a 45 averaging Test opener but you cant fault his application with the bat.

Big case to push him up the order.
-
Didn't Richardson vanish for a few years while he made the switch? Can't see Craig willing to go back to club to start again and not sure test or first class is the place to learn to open.

I'm pretty sure the main discussion is if Anderson should stay at 6 or be replaced by a specialist batsman?

Anderson hasn't actually played that much in the last 3 years, he's hardly been the core of our team.
-

Um. Anderson has obviously not been a key part of our success at test match level. He has only played 12 tests over the past 4 years. Neesham is our incumbent test number 6 and he would be playing there if he was fit.
-

Well I think his place was far from assured so I guess they need to decide whether they want the explosiveness of Henry or the workman service of Wagner.

If they go for Sodhi in some kind of lame "spin twin attack" I will stop supporting the Black Caps right now.
-

Henry every single day of the week and twice on Tuesdays.

He strikes me as a genuine wicket taker which is always quite handy in a pace bowler
-

And kind of important in a form of cricket that requires 20 wickets to win.

We know our cricket. We should host our own show.
-

I've seen Neesham play live once, in Brisbane. He was probably the worst player on the field. I don't think he's the answer to anything

At what exactly ? elaborate.
-

20 overs, 1 for about 115 (and his one was Warner when he was on 163 and throwing the bat at everything). And i think he scored a duck and less than 5. For your all-rounder batting at 6, that's a fucking horrible game

Agreed, shithouse game but people have them from time to time. He still has a decent record but he's not the messiah some say he is.

Aw and NTA, fuck off, you don't even like your teams all rounder let alone ours.
