Blues v Hurricanes

I’m biased , but as far as enjoyable rugby to watch goes ,
It’s hard to beat two Nz teams playing like that, With that spirit to attack
I know the Aussies , frogs and welsh have had their moments, but no one does it consistently like us

Really enjoyed that.
The game got a little messy in the last 20 but the first 60 was brilliant.
Sotutu, Clarke, Black and Otere were sensational.
Canes I think need to make some personnel changes. Their attack just didn't get going aside from that great try to Coles.

Rugby was the winner.
Well coached Blues side 😎

Great, well-deserved win for the Blues.
Black, Sotutu and Clarke very good; BB well-contained, Telea invisible.
Look I realize his emergence threatens the AB spots of Saders Bridge and Reece, but you've really got to make your bias more subtle. It's too obvious.

That was a great game to watch as a neutral. I ventured over to Manly to watch with my mate and had a huge feed of meat and kumara (and other veggies), watched the game, he’s a Canes fan but still thought it was a good game of rugby to watch, had a zoom catch up with some other friends. All and all a good afternoon of food and watching the footy.
Those Auckland backs look sharp, Clarke was on fire. Black had one of his better Super matches. Not sure what happened to the Canes after half time, they were right in It until then. Hopefully the penalty fest settles down next week.
Sent a group text of a pic of BB in his blues gear from the tv to a bunch of Canes fans ... As expected got a lot of abuse in return.
Too quote Ice Cube - today was a good day.

@mariner4life Co-captain with Coles.
Looked like Evans took over the captaincy when Coles went off?

The ref stopped carrying them. About half the penalties were legit, about half looked pretty average from the stand. Without the penalties, the Canes really didn't offer much.
Great fun down there, loved it. Well worth the trip, grea tto have a full house. Biggest crowd for 15 years for any NZ Super Side - well done Auckland

So, I’ve just watched the game. The Blues are a good side, and Hoskins Sotutu is a good player!
With Sotutu and Mikaele Tu’u playing like they are, we have a couple of excellent young number 8 options for the ABs. Hopefully we won’t see any gap filler type players (L Whitelock, Evans) in the 8 shirt, or even the squad for a while again.
Thought Nock and Black were excellent for the Blues. Rieko looks to have his mojo again, and how f’ing big are Clarke’s legs? Wowsers!

I think the major difference was how dangerous the Blues looked with the ball in hand. With the new interpretations you are going to struggle to retain the ball for long periods of time. We just weren't good enough to manipulate an overlap. Many times Reiko Ioane created one from a two on two situation and put the winger away.
Lineout must improve for the Crusaders as well.
I feel like Rieko moved to centre a few years early, but man he has the potential to be world class in that position. Will be interesting to see how he develops over the next couple of seasons.
-
@canefan you'd like to think seeing Sotutu carve up would be the spark he needs to up his game, immense natural talent, but usurped by a talented kid with a huge ticker...Akira is only 25, so has time on his side, but needs to start using it!
-
@No-Quarter Agree. Reiko is just a fantastic runner. As the game opens up he excels. He is not a natural passer yet (i.e. his first thought is not to position those outside him) but when he takes the line on he has great acceleration and creates space. Need to see how he performs in the Centre role in tight games. Thought the Blues dominated all over the park, with technical penalties just stopping them put away a weaker than usual Hurricanes team.

He has time, but it is starting to run down now he is no longer top dog in his own Super team. If he doesn't move elsewhere next season, in the hope of resuscitating his career and getting a strong hand on a black jersey, I think he ends up abroad in a couple of years

IMO Akira at his best is better than Sotutu at his best.
But I suspect we'll see more of Sotutu at his best than Akira.

He straightens and takes on the line, has the gas to go outside his man and put away the winger - a seriously good player.

Today was the best I've seen Rieko play at Centre. Great lines and angles of running. Defended the big channel confidently. Still needs to work on his passing game to get up to AB standard as a 13.
