NRL 2020

I am fine with the fake crowd effect - as soon as the game started it fades into the background and we get even more shots of the actual game.
Holy shit Warriors - seems they've unearthed a couple of very solid prospects - but the Dragons were beyond shit-house!
-
@Paekakboyz that young back rower Katoa looks a great prospect
-
Caught the extended highlights of Tigers and Sharks, and thought Benji played awesome. Not bad for a 35yo.

He does.
Probably means someone else will pick him up in a year or two when he has a small dip in form, and then go on to be a superstar because Warriors. -
The Knights v Panthers yesterday was a cracker. The Knights lost 2 players in the first quarter, one of which was their halfback, and you thought they were done. Penrith got it to 14-0, had heaps of ball and all the field position, and it looked like a big win was coming. Somehow the Knights got on the board just before half time, and would have been pretty happy at 14-6.
The 2nd half i kept expecting the Panthers to take control as the Knights tired, and especially having 2 young guys on debut playing big minutes, but they hung in there and hung in there, and with a decent goalkicker, should have won.
Golden point was a shitfight, and the Knights should have won it but for the ball not going to the unmarked winger (he was way too flat). Ended up a draw. Game of the weekend easily.

Haha fans submitted cardboard cut outs for games...
-
@taniwharugby I was tempted to photoshop a warriors jersey on David Bain and submit it.

NRL getting a lot of praise in AFL media circles for the way they have handled the return and pretty much everything associated with it ,
That doesnt happen often

Indeed. I’m sure rugby won’t praise it though....

I should watch the Warriors tomorrow. But i just know that last week was an aberration, and they will stink the joint out, get flogged (by a desperately limited Penrith) and i would get more pissed than usual.

Luckily for me it's on Fox and they haven't confirmed whether they're playing the Aotearoa Super Rugby yet so if I do watch it will be delayed and I'll likely already know the score.

I didnt see the game so dont have an opinion on it.
But someone ( I think it was Brandy Alexander ) on one of the fox shows said , it was fantastic, but if you were nitpicking , with the amount of possession they had , you would think the elite sides would probably have piled a lot more points on a hapless dragons side who are struggling

If you want to watch a ine-sided butt fucking, turn on the Roosters absolutely towelling the Broncos.
Brisbane have a couple of blokes who would be in contention for the worst players in the comp, in Darius Boyd and Anthony Milford.
Another disaster of a roster left behind by Wayne Bennett
-
Broncos looking like a mediocre Qld Cup side.
-
i really like the rule tweaks made. Th 6-again call is excellent, and having one ref definitely seems to bring more flow to the game (he even played advantage last night!).
There will be some lopsided games this year though. not every team is built for this pace. And there is nowhere to hide. You can't slow down the ruck. You can't keep giving away penalties. There are so few opportunities to reset.
Possession is everything. And footspeed through the middle. Those look to be the keys. The game is definitely better for these rule changes.
-
@mariner4life Increasing the pace of the game might make for a better spectacle. What genius came up with that idea?

pithy
But this bloke V'Landys has come in and just smashed everything. First game up and running. Better broadcast deal in the midst of a recession. Made the product a better spectacle. And he's done it in 2 months. All while keeping racing going in NSW.
By all accounts he's a total fluffybunny, but he's an effective fluffybunny (insert sex joke)
Now we wait for the coaches to adapt and fuck everything up again. Fatigue and chaos are the things coaches hate the most. So you arrive at where AFL and rugby are.
What quick changes could you make to rugby that would speed it up?

Also, just seen the replay of Radley's elbow injury. That's a bit of a shit act by Milford actually. I get that it's tacklers that the "chicken wing" law is aimed at, but this was no different
If Milford didn't do that, or miss tackles, you wouldn't even know he was playing.
