It comes down to selling Parker as a potential world champ and getting fans on board who want to be able to say that they were along for the journey.
Most of these people also understand that they won't get great value for money if looking only for quality match ups.
What makes a quality match up is some even competitiveness. You would be a fool to make all of your fights at that level not only because of damage to your record but from damage to yourself and you'd be burned out well before getting a chance -

Being along for Parker's journey would have cost you $600 by this point, unless you go halves with mates. That's cool for people who can afford it and derive pleasure from watching it. I just don't get it is all.
-

Honestly guys would it kill one boxing promoter to be truthful. I was just listening to Dean being interviewed on radio and he mentioned how great Jason Bergman was as a boxer and that he had gone his last 18 fighter undefeated. Obviously Dean wants to get the PPV boasted on sky because this is a flat out lie and id be amazed if Dean as a professional promotions company had no idea of Jason Bergmans record at all.

Lets be frank Bergman is a punching bag who has lost 2 of his last 18 fights, that's nothing to be ashamed of but it was against questionable quality of opposition. Not only that of his last 25 fights he has lost 6 fights against guys struggling to be in the top 100.

Joseph Parker is ranked on potential alone not on credential. Collecting ranking points via weak fighters is what most boxers are doing to get ahead these days. My understanding is Parker has made a top 10 ranking across the federations by not fighting one boxer in the top 20. He no doubt has talent but the glory days of heavyweight are dead. Even Wilder dodged Povetkin for Spilka, Fury will dodge Haye and the IBF was vacated to a fight between two plods which Martin won when he is no champion boxer of quality. New blood has not been quality blood. Tua had it way way way tougher on his climb.

Take it as you want but stop feeding us bullsh@t Duco.
-
Mate I think your chances of finding an honest boxing promoter anywhere worse than finding a virgin bride at a west Auckland wedding and building up your record with weak opponents seems to be the way most of them aim for a title shot. They get found out sooner or later though and then they become the punching bag for others looking for a shot.

If like to see this guy get another title shot but for obvious reasons opponents avoid him. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gennady_Golovkin -

He's a promoter. His job is to sell it to people and he does a good job doing it. I think asking people to pay $40 to sit at home and watch a low quality sporting event where the result is not in doubt, is excessive. However, given people are willing to do that, it's fair enough to take advantage of it

No, you shouldn't lie. It is always possible that Lonnegan simply misspoke.
-
For those in Aussie it looks like Fox Sports 5 is showing it live (and not pay per view).

I know a lot of boxing guys who just hate Lonergan and Duco. They hate the weak cards for top dollar, and the many circus acts they throw in that water down the sport.

$40 for a crap regional card is just unjustifiable. The reality is, these cards are free-to-air quality. I just don't understand people who are willing to pay for it.
-

UFC 197 - super card with mega star athletes is $29.95
Joseph Parker vs Lonergans not defeated 18 fights guy (Which is a lie) is $39.95

Where is the value? Duco are dreamers
-

Parker is not ready for anybody in the top 10 , Hell im not even sure he is ready for anybody in the top 20.

-

A massive step backwards. The guy he fought was a bum and no way should this have gone as long as it did. The conditions were probably a bit hot but a lot of Parkers punches lacked power and looked like slaps.

I'd hold him back a while. I was wrong based on this effort. Joshua would eat him alive.
-

Seems to me like boxing was in its death throes, in terms of it being a main stream interest, before Duco stepped it up. For all the disappointment about midgets and celebrities getting in the ring, boxing purists would still do well to remember that.

But yep, I agree that $40 for cards like that is terrible value.
-
I've only seen the highlights reel but that "bum" was able to take a hit. To get rocked by body shots like he did doesn't show any lack of power by JP.
Pleasing positive is that Parkers hand speed is still very good after 8 rounds.
The bum had some good training and tactics. Looked to be using his wide frame as a defence and wasn't presenting much of a target (head wise).
The shit talk from Barry, calling out Joshua etc, is all part of the longer term tactic of positioning Parker. They know that even if Joshua's camp said OK (which they won't ) it wouldn't happen for a while. -

That bum never in his entire career has made it past the 6st round of a fight. He has fought some very decidedly average boxers and got owned. The truth is Bergman was gassed and Parker couldnt take him out. BAD BAD BAD - Kevin Barry will be panicked about that fight make no mistake, Parker looked in every sense of the heavyweight boxing world terrible.

Lonergan calling out Joshua afterwards is a JOKE. Joshua would of clean taken that guy Parker just fought in under a minute. Parker is nowhere near as good as we have been lead to believe. He sticks his chin out far too much for a heavy weight and has such poor footwork that he wouldn't trouble anybody currently positioned at the top.

Nobody wants to fight Parker because he holds no value as a boxer currently, Nobody is scared of him. Reality is there is nobody on Parkers resume he has fought that is worth a dam in the boxing world to enable him to attract a good fight and im not sure he is ready or could handle one.

Duco are just riding him to PPV in NZ and calling it the road to the title, That is why his next fight will be in Christchurch in April against another no name for $39.95 - Lets give it to Tua he fought his career out in the the USA among the real deal of the heavyweight division. Parker should be in the USA fighting or Europe. Duco have no money or clout to make it happen, that's why we are being lied to about Parker. Enjoy you deep fried BK chicken chips at BK!
-

What a load of tripe and hyperbole. Are you sure you aren't a promoter yourself?

You seem to have a real chip on your shoulder about Parker and Duco. Fair enough for Duco, they are being dickheads at times, but it is a dickheads game. While Barry and Lonergan may be the mouthpieces talking things up, I think it would also pay to remember that a very astute sporting administrator is running things overall.

Parker holds no value? Right. He has ranking. Ranking holds value. Where are all the guys wanting to break into the top 10 that aren't scared of him? I had a listen to the commercial guy for Duco on the radio a while back and he laid out all the approaches they had been making, to guys ranked above and below. The ones above don't want to risk their position and the ones below see him as too hard.

Joshua in under a minute? I'll take that one as an over exaggeration.

If you don't want to follow this kids attempts to follow his dreams then don't. No one is forcing you to. He will learn things and make mistakes along the way for sure. Respected boxing analysts seem to rate him much much higher than you do and can see something good there. No, he isn't ready yet for a title shot, but he is very young as far as heavyweights go and has a lot to experience. It is possible a fast track attempt will come up and he may have a shot at it too early. I'm sure you are lining yourself up for a Ratpoo like told you so' post when that happens.

Personally I'm enjoying watching this talented kid try and make his way. He has talent and I hope he gets where he wants to.

As for his record so far. Go and check Fury's record at the same point.
