Makes Eden Park look like the MCG ......
-
Reminds me little of a story that happened in Auckland kid's club rugby a few years ago (was thinking 10 but may be 20 now ... I'm so old). I recall it as I think a few of the kids involved may have had the misfortune of having me help with their team a year or before.

Anyway it was like under 11s or 12s and Waitemata beat the mighty Eden 175 - nil.

I will say as far as I know at least the players were all the same age :)

The Waitemata coach made a big song and dance and got it in the papers, and the Herald went big with it. "World Record" type headlines.

Some lack of concern for the kids on the receiving end.

However the ARU were pretty quick to work it out and made quite a fuss of the Mighty Eden battlers. Sent Blues/ABs to training.

And the Waitemata coach got put back in his box.

Yeah we like success but they're just kids. -

I'll say. Some shit circumstances in there, but surely the fucking coach should have explained all that to the association and got the game postponed or cancelled.

What kind of fluffybunny coach leaves a bunch of kids out there to get flogged for two days?
-

At the very least they could have made each batsman retire at 50. They bowled the team out in the first innings for 32 FFS.

The coach of the victorious team is a piston wristed gibbon. Putting it mildly.
-

When I was at primary school our club went to Rotorua to play another club and the weight/age classes were completely different - we were all a year older than the teams we were playing.

After the first match they realised the error and then mixed up all the teams for the rest of the game. I think the coaches would have been embarrassed to let us run up big scores.
-
Our primary school was 50 kids from K-6 so our soccer team was all the primary (3-6) boys. The year 6 boys were all too old to play the U10 comp, so we had to play open primary against schools of 300+ kids.

I think 13-0 was the worst scoreline, and the games from memory were 15-minute halves. In the four years my fat little carcass ran around, we won one game total of probably 50.

One day the teacher tried to sneak us into U10, but a mate of mine was growing a mo at the time and nearly 5'10" so the officials twigged. By that stage we had won two games, drew one, so then forfeited the rest of the day.

I don't know what was worse: losing by a ton, and knowing we should, or winning those two games and knowing we shouldn't. -
This probably would have happened years ago, but you don't generally have psychopath coaches who, when faced with a mismatch of such proportions, let a guy bat to 1,000.

How utterly pathetic. -
The more details have emerged about this story, I couldn't help being reminded of this old sketch from The Fast Show

You're from Hawkes Bay, right? :)

When i was a third former (and couldn't make the first or second XV), St Andrews College sent their first XI to play us at soccer and we got beaten 32-1 if I remember correctly. I do recall correctly that we kicked off, scored and led 1-0.

It did us no harm. We learned that soccer is for fluffybunnies.

Those losing kids are legends. Go hard next year boys.
-

Only it 100% did happen exactly like this years ago FFS. Thats how the original record as set.

Christ people bitch & whine about the outrage of this. No one looks at the record he broke. From the Guardian -

"Let’s flick back 116 years, to revisit the story of AEJ Collins, the boy whose record Dhanawade broke. Collins made 628 not out in a junior house match at Clifton College. He did it on a junior pitch, 60 yards long, against a team that included, according to one report, some “no-hopersâ€. Collins won the toss, put his side in, opened, and then batted for the next four afternoons. The next best of his teammates made 42, and between them opposition made all of 33. "

So a farcial record gets broken in another farce. Oh the horror!!!
