@antipodean I get why you liked it. I had a few issues with it, but overall it was well researched and well written and I'm staggered that it would be pulled. My opinion of his conclusions are totally irrelevant!
Youtube have been demonetizing and demoting coronavirus related posts for weeks now. Facebook have also let their algorithm run roughshot over the topic. The idea is so the only point of view seen is that from mainstream sources CNN/Fox/WHO. The intention is good however as these outlets frequently lie or get it wrong it can be infuriating.
Thankfully, there's been less of the "Government approach will kill thousand's says Top Professor" articles in the UK press - the ones where the "Top Professor" turns out to have less knowledge of epidemics than a recently-qualified nurse.
Been impressed with the politicians here - BoJo and his team doing their best and Opposition politicians critiquing and suggesting ways things could be improved rather than carping. Corbyn even sounded statesman-like the other day.

@Baron-Silas-Greenback aren't you allowed to get a connecting flight when you land? And you are allowed to isolate with family, there are rules around that.
Yes.... And he did that.... Got all the way to Blenheim, spent 1 night and then left, did it all again. He was supposed to self isolate for 14 days, not 1!
But are you sure that self iso rules don't allow you to leave the country again?
Transport
If you are self-isolating after being overseas, you may need to travel from the airport where you arrive to another part of New Zealand to get home, for example, by plane, train or bus. It is ok to continue on to the destination where you plan to self-isolate.
While travelling, you should use hand sanitiser regularly. Cough and sneeze into a tissue or your elbow. Where possible, sit in a window seat in a row by yourself. If you are unwell you should seek advice from Healthline before you travel onwards. Once you reach your destination, you cannot use public transport, taxis or similar methods until you finish your 14 days of self-isolation.
You can use your own transport, such as a car or bike, whenever you wish. This also applies to rental vehicles, provided you have informed the company of your need to self-isolate.

@Victor-Meldrew few reasons for that
-
It’s widely publicized that it only seriously affects older people. Younger adults feel bullet proof at the best of times.
-
Lots of columnists are berating Boris for his approach as other countries are doing more. People do read these things.

The weathers turned good. It’s been such a wet winter it’s going to take more than a virus to stop the poms going to enjoy the sun.

Man Italy showing no signs of slowing down.
Can't seem to see confirmation of any new cases here, looks like a further 2?
I don't know what the hell they are doing there.
The public are not following advice to stay at home. I was told that the Italian government asked a Telco to track their mobile phones and 40% of the population was regularly on the move. This will be mostly the younger generation who will then have contact with their family/grandparents and you know the rest...
In my experience from visiting the tourist traps and landmarks of Europe, the only thing more ignorant and entitled than a coach load of Italian teenagers is a coach load of Spanish ones. I’m unsurprised they do whatever they want.
Spanish chicks are waaaaaaay hotter though
I'm not sure I agree with you, but either way, this is an important point.
To have to choose isn't such a bad place to be?

@Victor-Meldrew except John McDonnell.
Corbyn happy as they country is basically turning into his paradise.

Yes it is obvious and he knew it. You don't just jaunt about.

Oh it's obvious is it? Another quality answer from you 🙄
Putting aside that for a second, how do his actions take away from my point, that different countries have VASTLY different levels of screening and follow up and monitoring, and that this makes it incredibly hard to assume the rates of infection and deaths will follow the same trajectory?

Spotted in the hand wash section of Coles this arvo, so obviously considered essential and worth panic buying ...
Hang on... They are SQUARE!?!
Dunno. Not a crumpet fan. But I assume to fit in the toaster.

Yeah, there's an element of that but I give him credit for trying to support the government. McDonnell's still acting like the rich dickhead he is
I've been quite impressed with Ashworth the Shadow Heath sec - talks sense, knows his stuff and asks pertinent, non-carping questions.

@canefan Ha. Didn't look that close
70 years of classic Kiwi ads apparently.
The bloke on the left with the kemon squeezer hat looks familiar. Reckon my Dad (a child of the 1920s) had a plate with him on it. Just can't thonk of his name.
Also the bloke just to the right of the Four Square guy looks familiar.

Couple of opinion polls just released here show a large number of retards (mostly young people) just don't get it.
Nearly 25% of people 18-34 aren't following any government advice with 25% of 18-25 and 19% of people 25-34 believing the crisis is exaggerated.
Another poll shows nearly 10% of people don't have confidence in the Chief Scientific Officer or Chief Medical officer. The latter is a top epidemiologist who was a prime mover in stopping Ebola in Africa and is seriously, seriously impressive.
Yesterday, 200,000 people visited Skegness, a seaside town in Lincolnshire.....WTF?
Yeah just caught up with the olds, they've been trying to pin down niece 18 and nephew 21 for a Skype call but can't get them at home and certainly not at the same time.

This crisis definitely shows how strong government and an obedient populace can be a good thing. Not so much in Western Europe, the UK, Australia, USA, and NZ among others where people basically please themselves
