@Victor-Meldrew I hear EastEnders has stopped filming too.
I've written to the BBC Director General asking for multiple replays of England's RWC2003 campaign to fill the slots

Wales and Scotland to close schools from Friday, many of my friends here in Midlands have already received emails from their schools saying closing Friday so looks like Boris is following suit
They are all following the same advice. Educations Sec due to make an announcement tomorrow.
All schools in UK to shut from Friday until further notice. Small numbers of schools being kept open to protect parents who work in NHS & essential services.

It's difficult for them to pass on interest rate cuts for fixed rate lending, over and above the fact that it's fixed rate The lenders will have borrowed long at a fixed rate and then leveraged that to their borrowers. It will take time for the lenders to arrange new long term fixed rate money to offer new borrowers at lower fixed rates. if this is possible at all in the current climate.
Well ANZ have cut fixed ..... others to follow in due course
For existing borrowers? Surely that would be against the terms of the contract. Also very difficult to justify as interest rates generally have reduced.
No doubt be a numpty. A fixed loan is at fixed rate until it reaches a repricing point. This is for new and existing customers who wish to fix or re fix their lending positions.
You can of course break a fixed term but at your cost and a borrower will need to work out cost vs benefit particular to each mortgage tranche and their current financial situation.

Thank fuck for that. For while there, I was real worried about the lack of a Coronavirus anthem.
"Bono pens emotional ballad for Italians in the wake of coronavirus pandemic as he encourages them to 'sing from the rooftops'
Bono, 59, was inspired by footage of Italian citizens singing on their balconies whilst the country is in lockdown amid the COVID-19 pandemic*

@Victor-Meldrew right, I'm getting close to tipping point. When do we take up pitchforks against fucken celebs?

All the restrictions came into effect here yesterday at noon. The nightly news showing people still not taking it seriously police were berating people in the street sending people home and closing shops, that thought the rules didn't apply to them.
Here in the countryside its not as much of a disruption but still noticeably less traffic around today.
I've seen people describe the majority of these people as the 'new-French'. Any truth in that or is it across the board?

@No-Quarter That is fear propaganda if ever I've read it.
8-15% of people over 70 will die in the US. Well, what percentage of them would die on any normal year?
Twitter, once again, proving itself to be the worst fucking thing on this entire planet.
Oh it's definitely a "worst case scenario" situation which is very unlikely to unfold. The stat you quote there is what would happen if the States did absolutely nothing, which was never going to be the case.
It's a little bit like the climate change stuff. The unlikely worst case scenario is tabled and gets the most attention as that is what would concern people the most, but in reality it is unlikely to ever eventuate.
It's hit Italy hard, other countries not so much. Very difficult to predict but the one thing we know for sure is people isolating does work and really helps our health system cope with the increased demand.
-
@Victor-Meldrew Taiwan had 24 cases yesterday. South Korea still under 100.
Those numbers are insignificant compared to Europe which is clearly the current epicentre.
Lots of small waves that your health system can cope with is probably the best case scenario.

Appears to be a few anomalies in the data. Germany have 12,327 cases and 28 deaths, Spain have 14,769 cases and 638 deaths. I can only assume that Germany/Korea with mass testing are identifying way more mild cases therefore the death rate is substantially lower.
The flipside to this is if Spain have 638 deaths its likely they have more like 100,000+ odd cases in the population. Italy likely have many more than the reported number.

Scary thing is they added 20,000 odd cases and 1000 deaths in last 24 hours.

Just out of curiosity for those financial types. How do Airlines, Tourism Business, Pubs, Restaurants etc secure funding once this is done. Wont they be deemed high risk making it very difficult or expensive to get credit. Will most Airlines become Govt owned?

I thought it was well worth a read, my take was that this will be with us for a long time, the restrictions placed on the population will be directly related to the capacity of the healthcare system.Out of interest for those that think this is fear propaganda, how do you see this unfolding? How does this end or how do we go back to normal?

Think you might have something there.
Also, someone from Cambridge University was explaining that testing for Coronavirus is in it's infancy. There's trade-off between accuracy and the time taken to analyse sample.
