Like you, I laugh at some of the loopy, knee-jerk anti-Trump stuff and think he has done some good things - but I'd never call Trump statesmanlike or someone who could unite a country when called upon.
Oh I would never call him statesman like either (part of why I like him), I was referring to the speeches they give.
And he cannot unite the country because some people cannot give credit to him with anything ever, even to the point apparently he is now responsible for the recession caused by the Wuhan Virus No republican president could unite the US, because the media and left hate them all without exception. -
EU experts think it is a shit idea, but US experts think it is needed.
Fauci and Redfield back Trump's European travel ban
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the widely-respected director the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Robert Redfield, appeared before the House Oversight Committee for a second day of questioning Thursday and backed President Trump's travel ban from much of Europe."The real risk in general right now and this is why the president took the action he did last night within the world now over 70 percent of the new cases are linked to Europe" Redfield said. "Europe is the new China, and that's why the president made those statements."
When Vermont Democratic Rep. Peter Welch asked if there was a medical reason for excluding the U.K. from the ban, Redfield said, "We were looking at the extent of new cases in different areas," adding "because there's no borders."
Welch, not satisfied with the response, turned to Fauci, who backed up his colleague and the president. Fauci named Italy, France and Germany as the European countries with the most cases.
"When the discussion was, why don't we just start off and say, 'ban from Italy,' we were told by the State Department you really can't do that because it's like one country," Fauci said. "The reason I believe that the U.K. was left out was because there was a difference between the ease of transportation between the European countries and the U.K."
Welch interrupted, "Well, that's Brexit."

I think it's going to get a fair bit lower if the predictions are true and we face a shutdown of major businesses and services.
I'd be waiting at least two more weeks to see how deep it gets, and then diving in head first.
Had an bulletin/email from the bloke who runs my pension portfolio.
Thinks markets will fall until at least the end of March until they can see the early countries start to recover (Korea & China are looking good, virus-wise).
Uncertain how long the bounce-back will take.

It's certainly the dominant topic at the moment. Didn't even realise we had a terrorist attack not far from home a couple days back. These jihadis are going to have to up their game, maybe start makeing out with some corona victims then go through our public transport system licking hand rails and the like and coughing on everything to incite terror.
Stabbing random folk on the street is so 2019.

Blimey, Boris seems to be taking the sit back and let the people get sick.
I have to admit, there is actually quite a lot of logic in this. Ireland panics and closes the schools causing untold amounts of disruption to everywhere. UK says kids don't really get that sick with it, science says no need to do anything.
Who do you believe?
I wouldn't have a clue.
My question would be are they contagious and spreading it everywhere?

Apart for whatever Trump or Boris are doing/not doing, I think some kudos do actually need to go out hopefully not to early) to our own MoH and Govt teams.
The approach they have taken seems to be pretty good despite early slow uptake of the messages. We haven’t seen a new case in about a week and we aren’t having the stupid panic buying that other countries are experiencing.
We are lucky in having no land borders and have taken advantage of that. Obviously the “keep it out” part of the plan is critical as it reduces all other effects and needs.
No doubt we will have to tighten up even further as other areas escalate.
There will be a financial hit for sure but given that China has the ability to be the most draconian in finding ways to reopen we aren’t in that bad a place. Yeah, the market will take a hit but that’s the market anyway. It will always find a reason to take a dive every now and then. -
Hmm while things are dropping they will bounce back - wonder how many folks are thinking of further investment now - or are holding off to see how big the drop actually is. Global markets aside once China is open for business again we'll be tracking much better.
Suspect tourism is going to be the slowest sector to recover, but that's going to pressure airlines etc to keep offering deals and flexibility to shift flights.
From a hoax to a travel ban. Things move fast with Trump.

@Paekakboyz I'm holding off but getting ready. It could be rocky for a while but now China is producing again it might take off in a while

Really? My local went crazy when the first case broke but everything has settled down now. If anything it is a little quieter than normal

Seems to still have pockets of it, and related to a particular section of the community that wear masks.

Same here, but I suspect only because the shelves haven't been restocked.

Interesting cultural observation: Japanese wear masks to help prevent spreading their germs. Chinese wear them in the belief they stop getting germs.

Childminder text me today to say dearest daughter has a cough, she has had one all week no temp just a barely there sniffle of a cold (incredibly thankful that's all she has). Couple of hours later Bozza and team say anyone with a cough needs 7days isolation. Just received newsletter from childminder, looks like I'm going to be at home for a while.
Tom and Rita being so chill about having coronavirus is straight up the most comfort I have had since the UK went corona-cray.
I could cry.

It's a really odd sort of vibe here in Sydney. The reality is we have around 78 confirmed cases of coronavirus in NSW. 34 of the patients had travelled overseas, 32 had contact with a sufferer and the other 12 are under investigation. Over 11,000 have tested negative.
So at the moment it's a very isolated outbreak considering Sydney is a city of 4 million.
But watching the US, Italy, Europe... there is definitely a feeling that something is around the corner.
I'm getting married in two weeks, and the ceremony is out of Sydney. We're a bit worried about either ourselves or our guests either getting the virus, or coming into contact with someone who has. A 14 day quarantine would be disastrous!
But I have mates who are getting married in about six weeks, and I would be far more concerned if I were them. We should be OK to have everything run as planned. But it's all changing so quickly I don't know where things will be in six weeks.
Judging from the US, I'd suggest we may well see the NRL, AFL and Super Rugby go on hiatus. What the fk are we going to do for the next three months? Read? May God have mercy on our souls.

Buy my wine online so unaware of panic buying.
