Chiefs v Hurricanes

I thought Nankivell might have started but clearly they prefer ALB to be playing 2nd 5.
Maybe ALB wants to concentrate there as well and has shown as much in training. I'm happy with that for the ABs. Our 12 cupboard isn't overflowing at the moment.

I hope Devan Flanders takes his chance here. Fifita deserves to be dropped.
-
@Canes4life Big game for the 20-year-old to get his first SR start in! Hope indeed he goes well!
-
@Stargazer I hope devan flanders goes will and he could cement that spot until ardie back
-
@Jonty-lean When Ardie comes back, it will be Kirifi who has to move to the bench (or out of the 23). Flanders is competing for the no. 6 jersey with Fifita and Prinsep, not Ardie.

That article cracks me up though. Holland is deluded if he thinks Lomax just got his height slightly wrong. Also got his timing and arm wrong as well. If he had adjusted his height down he would have smashed his teammates ribs.
Lomax also took out Numia in friendly fire.

@Stargazer Are teams still going for two opensides, as was popular last year, or is it just the Chiefs?
TBF, the two Chiefs 7s can play like 6s as well ... maybe they are the quintessential 6.5s?
-
@Tim I think it is simply the squad and injuries as far as the Chiefs go.
Ardron, when fit, has to play lock often and Jacobson is also injured. Aside from that Boshier is in top form and Sowakula is proving to be effective at 8.I don’t think Bosh is really an out and out 7 anyway. Is developing nicely as a hybrid 6/7

@cgrant If you read some of Gatland's recent comments his plan is to give everyone in the squad opportunities to impress so I wouldn't read too much into that selection just yet.
"The experience I've had before in club rugby is that you have to make sure you keep the players motivated and interested and feeling like they've got an opportunity, particularly at the start of the year. "We're aware that we can't keep picking the same team week-in, week-out. "Because all of a sudden three or four of them pick up injuries and people will say: 'Why haven't you given others an opportunity early on just in case you did pick up injuries?"
The same article says 38 players have been used so far but that does include some injury replacements. Only McWhannell (coming back from injury), Sullivan and Naholo haven't had any game time yet.

I know but this Chiefs lineup looks like the strongest available XV, that's why I made this remark.
