Sky highlighted its partnership with Cricket Australia, which would allow it to screen Black Caps tours in 2019/20 and 2020/21, and all international matches (men and women) played in Australia. As well Sky's relationship with BCCI (India) meant it had the rights to the Black Caps tours in 2021/22 and 2022/23, and the Indian Premier League.

Spark is currently of no use to me, whereas I have a perfectly good Sky system - so I'm extremely fucked off with Spark (of whom I've been a customer forever, but that may shortly change). I'm far from convinced that the future of cricket broadcasting needs to be on the internet - I cannot believe people are going to watch cricket on their phones, though they may listen to it. Having home matches on spark and overseas matches on sky is a shambles - and frankly I hope the subscription service works as well for Spark as it did for those guys who took the EPL away from Sky (Premier League Pass or something).
I'm very hopeful that you'll be right about the radio coverage and that's all that's delaying my calls for David White's head!
If I were you Chris I'd be directing most of my frustration at Sky. Fact is they haven't adapted to the changing market; people like you are in a minority now (I don't mean that as an insult) and whilst they should look to still offer services to you, they really needed to invest in tech for streaming to capture younger generations who have no interest in watching traditional TV, and also the millions of people on fibre that stream most of their content nowadays.
For far too long their only streaming was Sky Go, which was a diabolical service that regularly crashed and had no casting capability.
Because of that they have bled subscribers, and can now no longer outbid their competitors who have no interest in providing satellite services for obvious reasons. If it wasn't Spark it was going to be someone else; the writing has been on the wall for a decade.
Personally I've ditched my Sky decoder and pay $40 per month for their new sport streaming service. I've found that a much better experience, and yes I watched a significant portion of the tests on my phone like many other people that stream stuff. But this streaming service has come way too late, they needed to have it years ago.

@No-Quarter That was on Fellet. The new CEO is much more in tune with the current technology. You can now cast Sky Go to a TV (available to Sky subscribers).

But, it is Spark that has bought the rights without the technical capacity to deliver the cricket to a significant proportion of the country.
Which is a fuck off attitude.

Just like they did with RWC, TVNZ is their fallback. But who will do the actual filming and production?

Think CWC15. The host broadcaster was brought in from outside.
Surely holding the rights to sell into Asia is worth a bit?

Remember when SKy started, they had on outdoor broadcasting capability. They bought (I think) a bunch of cameras from TVNZ
also, if you are digital first, that probably means different cameras. Sky have been diabolical to deal with for years for minor sports - hopefully some competition means we can get some moderate production quality broadcasts of more minor sports; domestic cricket, softball, volleyball, table tennis, etc. If the cost barrier to broadcast is low, people will find a way. Previously you had to pay Sky a massive sum for the privilege of broadcasting.

In other cricket news - the White ferns have messed up the T20 World cup and been eliminated.
Lost to both Australia and India by about 4 runs apiece - by leaving too much to do late.
In both instances, Amelia Kerr and Katey Martin launched strong late charges, but were left with too much to do.
To be fair Martin helped leave herself too much to do and taking 10 runs off the last 2 deliveries was closing the door after the horse had bolted.
Groups seemed a little unbalanced with India, Aus and NZ together given they are 3 of the top 4 in the world.

In the spirit of KP, here's a quick cricket quiz for the downtime.
Of the 10 guys with the highest ever batting averages in NZ first class cricket, six could readily form the top order of our greatest XI (I'd be pretty happy with it). Three are pretty much household names, but had pretty minor test careers. And one is obscure as fuck (at least to me).
Can you name them (bonus point if you can get them in order)?
No googling!
(Edit: minimum 3000 runs and also edit - must have played test cricket to exclude newbies like Conway)

do they? I would imagine there guys back in the day who tore it up during the non-international season, much easier to average high in home conditions against non-test attacks
