NBA season 2019/20

12 minutes of awesome watching. Its pretty wild shows how the NBA has changed (its not all just about James Harden).
-
My son lives and breaths basketball. We have daily discussions about basketball and mostly I love it. But the one thing I can not get him to understand is how different the game is now and how much it’s geared toward easy offence. He just thinks today’s athletes are better. It’s about that time he starts going on about MJ being carried by Pippen and Lebron is better because he passes the ball more...Harden is better than Jordan because he has a better 3pt % and Curry is better because he is the greatest 3pt shooter ever. I explain the flopping and the landing space thing didn’t exist in MJ’s era. That every shot was basically contested, hand checking and elbows were part of the game so it made it harder to score big scores...it doesn’t sink in. So it’s usually about the time where I tell him to bugger off and mow the lawns or skim the pool.
-
@canefan oh, we do. I will back him down and get those easy buckets. But If I miss its fucken over for me. He's spent hours watching Steph Curry shot mechanics and even more time honing his shot on the court. My son spends about 3 hours a day shooting by himself or playing ball with his boys during school weeks. Its holidays now and that's doubled. The little prick is automatic from just about everywhere and I've specifically made him focus on aspects of my own game that were weak. So he's got a strong off hand dribble and can lay-up on his off hand like it's his strong hand.
But before we start getting into maybe he's right and the new school trumps the old school. I was always a rugby player that played ball. He's a straight ball player and I was never that good lol.

@raznomore just get a new son.

@mariner4life more fun
-
@raznomore you could see if LaAngelo Ball wants a new family seeing hes the forgotten child. Also he won't argue as the kid cant string a sentence together.

Although if @raznomore misses he may still have an issue getting the ball back....

jesus the season is long. We aren't even at the interesting end yet. Close year though, there are 10 teams across the league in the 23-25 win category. Bucks best record, then the lakers. Both conferences have teams in teams in the 8 with sub-500 records (Spurs hanging in there, treadmilling hard out).
Fucking James Harden. He has 41 points today, on 9 of 34 shooting!! He's jacked up 20 3s, and hit 4 of them!! You can rack up the scores when you are given 23 free throws though. He's an incredible individual offence basketball player, but i hate the way Houston play.

OKC! Keep, keeping on beating cellar-dwellers, middle of the roaders and likely playoff contenders.
I thought Paul was looking to get traded when he first hit town. But he's really shown up. He outfitted the entire team in suits before Christmas and they have been one of the hottest teams since. Schroeder is probably the best 6th man in the league right now. SGA is looking like the most unexpected trade success of the season - the kid looks like an all-star and has the numbers to back it up. Gallinari and Adams(Steve is leading the league for centres with steals and has upped his assist and blocks pg) are working out as significant role players as is Noel off the bench.
I thought this season would suck for me but it's just getting better and better. Plus they beat the Spurs today.... @mariner4life
great read

Lakers without AD and Lebron have torched my Thunder for 3 quarters and only just allowed us a semi respectable 15pt defeat.
Confidence is huge with this Lakers team. I don’t care how good Giannis is. The Lakers are too deep now and will walk through the finals, barring injury. I mean Kuzma and Rondo just went for 50+ combined. Howard had a 14 rebound double double off bench ffs.

Crucially LBJ and AD can rest and the team still keeps winning. Lebron hasn't had that luxury for a long time

Walk through the finals??? No way man. I still have the Clippers favs over them in a 7 game series. So many scoring options, able to ratchet up the defense when it matters.
I wouldn't be getting too excited about Rondo or Kuz or Dwight putting up numbers in a meaningless regular season game. They will all get found out and exploited in a WCF 7 game series. And if LeBron ends up playing PG for that series, they can forget about making the finals.
All that said, still great signs for them, and as you say, huge to be getting some rest. And if they can maintain home court, even get ahead of the Bucks, that'll clearly help.
-
@voodoo I am a huge PG fan and the Clippers are my preferred option. But they aren’t the super team I was expecting them to be. Still yet to see the Kawhai from last season show up.
I’m an OKC fan but they were still the best team of December and as meaningless as this game was the Lakers did with bench players.
-
@raznomore yep, but if last year showed us anything about Kawhi, it's that he doesn't give a fck about the regular season, and he knows how to peak at the right time.
I have no idea how LA plan to guard Kawhi and PG (though you could say the say re AD), but I think the biggest issue LA have is that they don't/can't trust their outside shooting. Clips just have so much more offense, and I fully expect them to dial up their defense when it matters.
-
Take a look at Kawhi's stats last year:
Reg Season: 32mpg, 25.5, 7.6 and 5.1
Playoffs: 39mpg, 30.5, 9.1 and 3.9That's a huge offensive leap, not to mention the extra 7mpg of defense.
With PG also building from the injury layoff, I reckon they're still pretty scary.
But I will be rooting for LeBron!
-
The Clippers have the absolute best defensive duo to go at Lebron in a playoff series with Kawhi and PG.
The Clippers have won both games against Lakers this season. Lebron found it pretty tough to get his offense going in either game, whereas Kawhi looked like the clear best player in both games.
It's still hard to split the two teams though, but I'll give the edge to the Clippers in a series. Things can change if some trades get made.
