@voodoo They need to dramatically cut the season to make it more interesting. The era of "load management" is putting off viewers and even worse for ticket holders.

30 teams, play everyone home and away once = 58 games. Much better than 82. Every game matters. Do away with the division rubbish and have straight East/West playoffs , 8 teams each. I'd go back to first 2 rounds being 5 games, then conf finals and finals being 7.

Tie break for playoff spots is head to head record, if 1-1 then go total away wins, then points diff, (then 3s made in homage to the cricket world cup).

Will never happen as fewer games = less sponsorship $$$m = players only get $15m/season rather than $25m, how would they ever cope?

Adam Silver is proposing some radical changes to the NBA season and playoff formats. Some may have merit, others not so.

OKC on a 3 game run. Starting to trust each other and have some fun. Chris Paul seems to have finally turned up to play. Schoeder, Gallinari and the rookie Gilgeous-Alexander have been trying all season but now that Paul and Adams are chiming in they seem to be a legit team. Early days but they are currently an interesting team to watch. Looks like Roberson is one step closer to early retirement as well. His knee is still super painful and he has been given a change of scenery, an LA based rehab facility, in a last stitch attempt to heal his leg. Was a great defender but I think he's done.

@voodoo said in NBA season 2019/20:

@Bovidae yeah, what annoys me is people relating stats now to 10/15/20 + years ago.

    It's just so different

As you say, D is optional. Add to that the realisation that the 3 is a weapon, the pace of the game, the different rules (illegal D, zones, hand checking etc).

Stats have become incomparable. Like, MJ could actually shoot. Imagine he had a licence to shoot 6-8+ 3's per game (he never took more than 3.6pg) and he managed c. 35-38% of them (not inconceivable given his career ave)? Imagine what that additional threat would have added to his rim attacking?

It's just a different game now.

Listened to an interview the other day with Andrew Gaze and he was talking NBL and NBA. Was quite funny talking about Glen Rice Jnr and also his dad Glen Rice Snr.

But the interesting thing he said was if Larry Bird was playing today he’d average 60 😀

The defence overall is deplorable and without hand checking guys just blow by most defenders. And so with the superior athleticism of the modern NBA player we see so many dunks and high flying plays that the young ones love. But in terms of quality ball it is a bit lacking.

@ACT-Crusader I agree re Bird. He never shot more than 3.5 triples pg, yet he had 4 or so seasons shooting them at >40%. In today's game he would take 8-10 per game! And his career would have been 3-4 seasons longer! Just the pace of the game would see his points and rebounds and assists all go up, they have so many more possessions now.

Bird was a phenomenal player and his shot making and IQ would be unreal in today’s game.

Gaze was funny talking about that 89 NCAA final. He said “I locked down Glen Rice for 31 points, if I hadn’t been playing D on him he would’ve gone for 50”.

That is still one of my all time favourite NCAA final games.

Draymond Green sounds like the ultimate team mate. But you still hate him if he isn't on your team

For the first time in his NBA career, Draymond Green is staring at a losing season. How has the Warriors' lone veteran leader handled life at the bottom of the standings?

OKC! Keep, keeping on beating cellar-dwellers, middle of the roaders and likely playoff contenders.

I thought Paul was looking to get traded when he first hit town. But he's really shown up. He outfitted the entire team in suits before Christmas and they have been one of the hottest teams since. Schroeder is probably the best 6th man in the league right now. SGA is looking like the most unexpected trade success of the season - the kid looks like an all-star and has the numbers to back it up. Gallinari and Adams(Steve is leading the league for centres with steals and has upped his assist and blocks pg) are working out as significant role players as is Noel off the bench.

I thought this season would suck for me but it's just getting better and better. Plus they beat the Spurs today....👀 @mariner4life

My son lives and breaths basketball. We have daily discussions about basketball and mostly I love it. But the one thing I can not get him to understand is how different the game is now and how much it’s geared toward easy offence. He just thinks today’s athletes are better. It’s about that time he starts going on about MJ being carried by Pippen and Lebron is better because he passes the ball more...Harden is better than Jordan because he has a better 3pt % and Curry is better because he is the greatest 3pt shooter ever. I explain the flopping and the landing space thing didn’t exist in MJ’s era. That every shot was basically contested, hand checking and elbows were part of the game so it made it harder to score big scores...it doesn’t sink in. So it’s usually about the time where I tell him to bugger off and mow the lawns or skim the pool.

@raznomore perhaps you need to play him one on one and try the old school McHale on Rambis clothesline move on him

@canefan oh, we do. I will back him down and get those easy buckets. But If I miss its fucken over for me. He's spent hours watching Steph Curry shot mechanics and even more time honing his shot on the court. My son spends about 3 hours a day shooting by himself or playing ball with his boys during school weeks. Its holidays now and that's doubled. The little prick is automatic from just about everywhere and I've specifically made him focus on aspects of my own game that were weak. So he's got a strong off hand dribble and can lay-up on his off hand like it's his strong hand.

But before we start getting into maybe he's right and the new school trumps the old school. I was always a rugby player that played ball. He's a straight ball player and I was never that good lol.

@raznomore you could see if LaAngelo Ball wants a new family seeing hes the forgotten child. Also he won't argue as the kid cant string a sentence together.

Although if @raznomore misses he may still have an issue getting the ball back....

jesus the season is long. We aren't even at the interesting end yet. Close year though, there are 10 teams across the league in the 23-25 win category. Bucks best record, then the lakers. Both conferences have teams in teams in the 8 with sub-500 records (Spurs hanging in there, treadmilling hard out).

Fucking James Harden. He has 41 points today, on 9 of 34 shooting!! He's jacked up 20 3s, and hit 4 of them!! You can rack up the scores when you are given 23 free throws though. He's an incredible individual offence basketball player, but i hate the way Houston play.
