Blundell gets 100. An indictment on the selectors. The guy has 2 tonnes in 3 matches. Now we have keystone cops and Southee gets run out

The one glaring positive to come from this 2nd embarrassing hiding in a row is Tom Blundell.
The man who had never opened in a first class match before, brought in to open against a red hot bowling attack and shows up all of our established batsmen.

    You bloody ripper.

That only leave the spinners spot to sort out. No more persisting with Santner, surely?!?!

Well Boult has to go home so if the selectors have any sense they will choose a real spinner not a "batting all rounder".

There is something extra annoying about a player getting run out in a test match right near the end of day 4. Stupid stupid STUPID.

Blundell scored half our runs. Nicholls, Watling, and Santner another 82. Remaining six scored 27 runs between them. Unacceptable.

    Maybe Ajaz is whitebaiting somewhere.

Are you saying Blundell should have been selected more and, if so, instead of whom?

Blundell doing very well makes the pain of this defeat greater. Really one of Williamson, Taylor or Watling should have scored runs in one of the innings.

If we scored even another 100 in the first innings that adds 2 and a bit sessions to the game and we might hold on.

I'll see your Blundell and raise you a Wags.

    So that's two.

Agreed Wags a definite positive, but Blundell being the really obvious one.

While we are at it can we get Blundell in the ODI side and fuck off Munro?

Might as well, nothing to lose. Literally.
And plenty to gain from what I can see.

Blundell was the top scorer in the match and we lost by 247 runs...

How do we turn it around for last test?

Number one is getting top 6 to bat time. Thought the Aussie paceman didn’t look so threatening when they had bowled a few overs.

Problem was then Lyon came into it and he is fantastic. Really adds a balance to their side that makes us look like the poor country cousins. So question is Astle the answer? Too late to introduce Ajaz and Sommerville you would think and selectors will want to see their backup option given a go. Hope he can do a Blundell.

Do they get to provide feedback on the Umpires? They were average at best. But changing Umpires call would make that right. Simple thing that would improve the game immensely.

I did love that there were so many kiwis in the crowd that Blundell got a huge, prolonged cheer when he got his hundred. He deserved it.

Surely must retain his spot in Sydney, too.

    Without a doubt.
He’ll have an extended run there now.

I’m not putting a line through Raval’s name just yet though, he was extremely consistent before he hit this bad run of form. If he finds his form again for Auckland I’m sure he’ll still be in the mix.
