Highlanders 2020
-
It looks like the Highlanders have lost hooker Ricky Jackson. No idea for how long, but this may take a while. Maybe the Highlanders will have a look at Kianu Kereru-Symes, because the Canes didn't let him train with them, this year.
.Big thanks for all the messages and support over the last week. Another night in hospital. Operation last night to insert screw and tight rope onto ankle. Recovery mode... again 🏥

4 week ban and a conviction. How will this work when he goes overseas due to the conviction?

New Zealand Rugby Head of Professional Rugby Chris Lendrum said the new Highlander signing would not be available for two of the Highlanders' two pre-season fixtures, or the first two Investec Super Rugby games of 2020.
Or???
So he misses two games? Considering he's behind Pari Pari Parkinson, Josh Dickson and Jack Whetton in the locking pecking order, he was unlikely to play those first two SR games anyway. The use of the word "or" means that they can just say he will miss the first two SR games (assuming byes don't count, that will be the round 2 and 3 games), especially because the round 3 game is away against the Brumbies and he probably won't be allowed to enter Australiaa. So - using those two first SR games for his suspension - he'll be free to play their two preseason games and all SR games after round 3.
I guess, for their overseas trips, they can use Shannon Frizell and Jesse Parete as lock cover in case one of Parkinson, Dickson or Whetton gets injured. If they, however, have a season with a lot of injuries to locks and/or loosies, they may regret having him in the squad.

If he can't get into Australia then why the fuck is NZR bothering? Do they see him as a potential all black? No use if he can't get into some countries.
Are we sure he can't get into Aussie? It’s seems every day I am dealing with a grubby NZer, surely some of them would have had convictions in NZ.

They were fine until they turned up to Britain's Top Convict Destination (since 1788)

Who the injury replacement for Ricky jackson
-
@Jonty-lean Better still, who is Ricky Jackson?
-
-
Jackson has been replaced in the squad by Bay of Plenty hooker, Nathan Vella, an experienced rake who played the first of his 15 provincial games for Auckland in 2011 prior to a period overseas with London Welsh and then the Bedford Blues.
Geez, why such a journeyman, who changes teams every season? Why not Kianu Kereru-Symes, who was excellent for the NZU20s (one of the few). This is for the third hooker spot; they should have gone for a young one.

@Bones saw that on FB, funny!
Was Gregory simply not selected in the last 7s series, or is he only released for a certain window for the Olympics?
He's not selected for 7s squad, but I think the Super Rugby 4 play some SR at the start of the season, they'll come on board later. IIRC that's what they said in the announcement, however Etene Nanai-Seturo & Salesi Rayasi are in the squad so I don't know. Maybe it's all about flexibility with the SR players
-
It's all covered here (from August 2019)
Clarke, Nanai-Seturo and Rayasi will join the All Blacks Sevens squad after their Mitre 10 Cup commitments at the end of this year while Gregory will assemble with the Highlanders until March 2020.
