I'm so glad the Black Ferns sevens won NZ team and coach of the year. Would have been a travesty if the All Blacks had won either.

@Machpants More or less all awards have gone to the nominees that I expected to win, although I hoped Ash Dixon would win the Tom French Memorial Māori player of the year award. Ardie's three awards no surprise; he fully deserves them!

@Stargazer Did you watch the awards? What sort of blurb did they give for the Crusaders winning National team of the year?

Crusaders lost twice and drew twice, so while a good effort, not exactly a vintage Crusaders season.

I hope it wasn't that they three-peated, because that's not "this year".

Meanwhile both the Mako and the Canterbury women were unbeaten (Mako the first team to be unbeaten in 12 years). And the Mako won a title that has been basically an Auckland/Canterbury hegemony for 30 years!

    Shit judging IMO. 🙂

Mako lost points for not winning a shield challenge

That can't be right, because neither the Crusaders nor the Canterbury Women won one either! 🙂

I can't remember, but if you really want to know, you could watch this and try to find out.

@Stargazer Thanks for that - nothing there other than the obvious that the Mako should've won.

Anyone from NZ Rugby here who wants to try to explain it?

@Machpants And they're throwing Razor a couple of bones, because they might need him later.

Adding to the case - the Crusaders also won that prize last year - and had their South African incident.

Was there something related or just coincidence that the three former Highlanders got the NZRPA Kirk Award?
