Cricket: NZ vs Aus

yeh that was stunning from Lyon. Warne-like in regards to that ball he bowled to Gatting. Just hit the rough and took off on Williamson.

I'm not sure Raval did too much wrong, either. I was pretty critical of him trying to hit out against England, but that was brutal from Starc.
Their bowlers are better than us. Their batters are probably slightly better than us. If we get the wrong end fo the toss on a pitch that's going to deteriorate, we're in trouble.
Flush the dunny and move on I reckon, just bat, put some miles in teh bowlers legs and let's see what happens.

Who would be the next option to open if Raval is dropped?
Tom Blundell is the only other batsman in the squad - but, they might push Nicholls up to open.
I'm not sure they should drop Jeet - not so much because I think he'll come right - but, because we might fuck up someone who will otherwise prove useful.
One of my theories is that we should pretty much ignore results against Australia when it comes to selecting the Black Caps, because over the years they've got rid of some decent NZ players who've been replaced by lesser players for easier series.
Iโd go with that theory up until the point of Jeet Raval, given his run of form extends back across recent series as well. In two minds about it, replacements arenโt obvious and may not make things any better. On the other hand, being only slightly facetious, bringing Matt Henry into the side for Raval wouldnโt markedly weaken the batting scorecard for now. Peter Fulton has a lot of work to do over the next ten days with Raval...

When we needed Greatbatch, Kane gives us a BMac esque innings
That's a bit unfair. He put away the bad balls, and got absolutely smoked by a ripper from Lyon.
Itโs probably completely unfair
For now Iโm just in a cloud of sourness that my day dreams of Williamson and Watling entirely batting out day 5 are toast...
I remember watching Greatbatch and Sneddon (on the the brand new TV3?) at the time as a kid; itโs only with the passage of time Iโve realised how epic it genuinely was.
-
@Donsteppa Yeah - Jeet is a quandary.
But, in principle - if you give a guy all of the lead-up opportunities to a big series and then ditch him after he fails at the first hurdle - then it has been very poor selecting.
It's like Colin Munro and the CWC (which was actually far worse).

Thoroughly enjoying my first trip to Perth despite patchy nz performance. Rather hot at 40 degrees each day so amazing job done by the 4 pace bowlers doing the extra work. They have been tremendous. The variable bounce and lighting contrasts in the evening session mean I will likely have a clear day for Rottnest tomorrow I suspect.
-
actually quite a poor showing from the Black Caps now, coupled with Australia having their tails up.

yeah, frustrating. 10 hours in the heat, and then lose a few quick wickets. After that, the pitch has been really hard to bat on.
Must bounce back quickly for the enxt test
-
It's a shame that after all the 85/86 and "best team ever to go to" hype, instead this is just another business as usual hiding to start a test series in Australia. Those 2004 analogies unfortunately look more apt at this stage. Hoping for a Bolt led MCG bounceback now.

Game to be abandoned after pitch became unplayable.
0-0 going into Melbourne
Which also got abandoned after pitch deemed unplayable and then 5 days of rain in Sydney
0-0 worst Christmas ever and New Zealand never invited back

One of our DRS challenges for LBW was dismissed because the ball pitched outside off (or so I thought the comms said). So why was Latham given out?
You must have made a mistake. For lbw, ball can pitch outside off stump. It cannot pitch outside leg stump.

A mosque shooting in Perth would be handy right about now.
Just saying
Or an ISIS attack on the casino, ( just to keep everyone happy ๐)
Too narcissistic?? Too soon?
๐That's a bit drastic.
Really all we need is for these guys to bat for 3.5-4 sessions and then get support from the tail.

I didn't think so but I must have. It was off Santner's bowling, can't remember exactly but it definitely pitched outside off
