So this is a good outcome:

Tony Brown may not be coaching the All Blacks but he will be involved with the Highlanders for the next three seasons.
The franchise had signed Brown through until 2022 but that was dependent on his international commitments.

With Brown linked to the main coaching candidates for the vacant All Black position, there was a fear he would coach for the 2020 season only and then move on.

However, with Brown joining Brave Blossoms head coach Jamie Joseph in Japan through until the next World Cup, he is now able to coach the Highlanders for the next three seasons.

Highlanders chief executive Roger Clark is thrilled Brown has confirmed he will stay until 2022 with the Highlanders.

"It is a massive coup for us. Everybody wants him - the All Blacks wanted him and now we have got him for the next three years," Clark said.

"It's incredibly exciting for our fans."

Clark said it was a real boost for the young players in the team to have Brown involved on the attack side.

Brown, who will be the attack coach and also be in charge of the game plan, would have a significant workload through the year but, with the way Super Rugby was structured, it should be manageable, Clark said.

The Super Rugby season will start early next year - the first round is in late January and it will be over by June.

The test windows are in July and November, when the Highlanders are not playing.

From 2021, the Super Rugby competition will go from mid to late February to the end of June when it reverts to a true round-robin format.

Clark said Brown had been doing two jobs for a good while so he was used to it and was a good manager of time.

Brown was also an assistant coach and not the head coach, so that would make his job easier.

@Smudge So if you're the assistant coach for another country, you can continue to be the assistant coach to a SR franchise, but if you're the assistant coach for the ABs, you can't?

These questions are best directed at NZR, rather than me. Unless I'm Tony Brown, which I'm not.

    Yes. Depending on the country

The Landers home jersey is the best of the lot, but the 2020 jerseys are easily the worst ever.

By the length of the straight.

The Blues and Canes ones are horrendous even if they donโ€™t have a couple of dils on their chest

Wouldn't that be down to the employers?

If NZR says AB Asst is full time and they pay both positions then they make the call.

If JRU says J Asst is part time and they allow the guy to have another job then fine at that end. And as long as said coach delivers in his dedicated role as SR Asst the NZR should have no issue.

Super Rugby Teams of the Decade: The Highlanders XV that created a legacy over the last 10 years

Super Rugby Teams of the Decade: The Highlanders XV that created a legacy over the last 10 years

Under the stewardship of Jamie Joseph and Tony Brown, the Highlanders emerged from Super Rugby cellar-dwellers to genuine title contenders throughout the 2010s. So, who makes their team of the decade?

Hunt's stock has really dropped. Wouldn't be surprised if Tate Evans is preferred ahead of him at Harbour next year.

It looks like the Highlanders have lost hooker Ricky Jackson. No idea for how long, but this may take a while. Maybe the Highlanders will have a look at Kianu Kereru-Symes, because the Canes didn't let him train with them, this year.

Big thanks for all the messages and support over the last week. Another night in hospital. Operation last night to insert screw and tight rope onto ankle. Recovery mode... again ๐Ÿฅ

4 week ban and a conviction. How will this work when he goes overseas due to the conviction?

    @Yeetyaah

New Zealand Rugby Head of Professional Rugby Chris Lendrum said the new Highlander signing would not be available for two of the Highlanders' two pre-season fixtures, or the first two Investec Super Rugby games of 2020.

    Or???

So he misses two games? ๐Ÿ™„ Considering he's behind Pari Pari Parkinson, Josh Dickson and Jack Whetton in the locking pecking order, he was unlikely to play those first two SR games anyway. The use of the word "or" means that they can just say he will miss the first two SR games (assuming byes don't count, that will be the round 2 and 3 games), especially because the round 3 game is away against the Brumbies and he probably won't be allowed to enter Australiaa. So - using those two first SR games for his suspension - he'll be free to play their two preseason games and all SR games after round 3.

I guess, for their overseas trips, they can use Shannon Frizell and Jesse Parete as lock cover in case one of Parkinson, Dickson or Whetton gets injured. If they, however, have a season with a lot of injuries to locks and/or loosies, they may regret having him in the squad.
