    Dolemite is my name.

Eddie Murphy at his best. Wesley Snipes was excellent as a pompous asshole which isn't a stretch.

The supporting cast was average. Very good actors but not utilised as well as they should have been. Bob Odenkirk, Craig Robinson & Keegan-Michael Key are great talents underused in this movie. Although the latter was clearly playing it straight for a change.

But otherwise this was loads of fun, especially if you are familiar with the source material.

I don't know if Murphy deserves an Oscar nod, like some have suggested, because he is really only playing a character we have seen in many other movies he's made.

4 Muthafuckas out of 5 Signifying Monkey Feet

This was way better than I was expecting. I know nothing about the actual guy, so at the end I was really feeling it for the premiere, I did not expect the taglines at the end at all.

Had me giving a shit about him. I dunno if we've seen Eddie do desperation like this, all the flashy comic stuff sure but this was a good performance.

Danger Close - about the battle of Long Tan.

To be honest, I started watching this, it was getting late and the dialogue and acting at the start was a bit average, so almost bailed...but stayed and things did get better.

Last hour was pretty intense, can only imagine how those poor buggars felt out there, not sure if the selfish actions of one of the top brass was true, but astounding if it is.

Was odd seeing Ragnar Lothbrook as an Aussie Major...

4 I'm out of ammo out of 5 f#ck that was close, again

@taniwharugby I think there were, as always, more sides than one to the story. Like most military misadventures there were a lot of misunderstandings, and the PBI blamed the brass. Look at the infantry slagging off the RAF as they weren't over the beaches at Dunkirk for example. That show was very much from the frontliners persepective and it always good for the ratings to have the senior officers as the incompetent other enemy - a pretty overworked trope. There were mistakes but it's always easier to see with the help of 20/20 hindsight. If you read miitary history you realise how fucked up most ops were, there is just so much room for error, so uch stress, shit happens.

@Machpants the bit I was alluding to was one of the Brass after being ordered to stay behind when the APC went out to rescue the force that was under seige, he then went out, called the leader of the APC and told him to return to base to get him (after they were 15 mins out on an hour journey) as he wanted to be part of the rescue...for the dramatic effect, the APC arrived right on time, although the APC leader had sent 1 unit back to pick up this other dude rather than turn the whole fleet back.

But yeah, it is easy in hindsight to point the finger at someone up the chain, often thier decision is made with saving the larger number of lives...

@taniwharugby Yeah I can't remmber that was 100% fact or not, I've watched the show but also read several books about it. Was it presented as he wanted the glory? I'll have to watch again now!

@Machpants I'd say it was portrayed that is was because he wanted the glory, a couple of times in the movie he mentioned 'the History books will say...'

Ford v Ferrari: I'm not a car person, box and four wheels to me (what is funny is that I was named after a race car driver) but I quite enjoy car racing movies. This is about driver Ken Miles and designer/team owner Carroll Shelby and their quest to take on and beat Ferrari in their Ford GT40s.

There's the usual bit of fuzzing of the timelines and events etc but still a good watch. Has a wee bit of a Kiwi flavour as well.

Wanted to see The Irishman this weekend in the cinema but as Scorcese has decided he'd rather make movies for Netflix 😉 it was only on at the shitty seated cinemas in Sydney, not conducive to watching a long movie. So I'll watch it at the end of November at my mates who has a projector and save my cash for the next comic book movie.

The plural of Michele in French is Michelin.

    Fact.

That's why they named the tyre company that, after all the race drivers called Michele.

    THe KIll Team

BAsed on the true story of a young soldier who is in Afghanistan and realises his Sergeant (Alexander Skarsgård) and the rest of his unit are senselessly killing Afghan villagers and making it look like they are insurgents.

Alexander Skarsgård is menacing as Deeks, and some other good acting from nobodies, but story really struggles to grab you and get going, and then at less than 90mins you are kinda left thinking there should be more.

2.9 unit beatings out of 5 dead villagers

The Knight Before Christmas on Netflix. Not quite as bad as Falling Inn Love (the dialogue is marginally better and no goat), but the saccharine sweetness that is piled on with a trowel will give you tooth decay (what is tamer than G-rated?). Basically a witch hands a knight a pendant and he zooms 650 odd years in the future on a 'quest'. The way 14th century English medieval knight seamlessly fits into Ohio US 2019 - understanding language, customs, technology (he asks to drive her car, she hands him the keys, he can use the oven, work a remote for cable tv, speak American slang etc etc) is quite something. He also says 'toodle pip' at one point. Ask no questions because naturally the plot makes no fucking sense.
