Shame that Brown may have limited himself.
I think it is a class move to lay his cards out on the table. I am sure he could have taken advantage of his position and used his leverage (why not, it works for our politicians right Winston?) but I respect the fact that he isn't keeping anyone dangling on the line

I'm not criticising him. He's clearly saying his loyalty is with Joseph.
Just I'd like to see him available to any party that gets the gig.

I don't see why the head coaches need to confirm their team prior to being appointed themselves.
That's probably what Robbie thought.
I agree - it's helpful if the applicants have some ideas of the people they want to work with - but, if everyone turns up with discrete, pre-packaged coaching teams, we're likely not going to end up with the optimal outcome.
-
@Duluth Leon?
Actually, I somewhat doubt that - it seemed a bit unusual that he left that Crusaders Asst. Coach position after one year.
O'Gara?
Foster presumably will have whatever the remnants of the AB coaching team are - so probably McLeod among others in my view.

O'Gara?
Both have huge negatives
MacDonald would mean disrupting two SR sides. NZR is getting their hands dirty trying to get the Blues back on track. I doubt they want to change coaches now
Ronan? There's so many good NZ coaches. It would be a slap in the face to go for a foreigner with a limited CV.
Maybe Robertson is forming a good team and there just aren't any leaks? But I'm starting to think he's getting boxed out
-
As much as I can see that the negatives around Fozzie aren’t nearly as big as some make out and that he may be in a strong place to put together a good coaching unit I am also beginning to think that, given the player rebuilding situation this may also be a good opportunity to refresh the hereditary situation that has developed.
Having continuity is great but eventually it gets more and more difficult to get fresh ideas from the same group.
The last group showed a fixation on beating the rush defence because they wanted to continue an attacking style of their creation. In doing that they gambled on ignoring some key RWC knockout lessons around experienced heads.
Maybe a new dynasty can be created and this is the prime opportunity to start it?
Much depends on the running mates. -

Maybe - but it's all pretty speculative about who has worked with who, etc - and pretty clearly who the NZRU thinks is a good coach/assistant and who people on the Fern think are good coaches aren't necessarily the same.
Scott McLeod as AB defence coach was completely out of the blue for me.
Razor might be putting together a "dream team" of Deans, Hammer, Tana and JK!
-
Some candidates might only be interested in being the head coach at this stage of their career while others could be prepared to park their ego at the door and look at the bigger picture. Think back to 2003/2004 when Henry assembled a "dream team" with 2 assistants who had previously been the head coach of international teams themselves. If everything falls into place the assistant would be a good chance to succeed the head coach as Hansen did. The big unknown is whether some of the names mentioned in the press could work together because they all have their own personalities and ideas, and we don't really know if there is any history between them.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS FOR ALL BLACKS HEAD COACH UNDER WAY New Zealand Rugby (NZR) has launched its process to find the next Head Coach of the All Blacks. The search for a new coach follows Steve Hansen’s decision earlier this year to stand down from the role. NZR has already commenced the process by inviting applications from a small group of coaches familiar with New Zealand’s professional rugby environment. NZR Chairman Brent Impey said that shortlisting, interviews and negotiations would be conducted through November and early December, with a Head Coach to be announced prior to the Christmas break. The appointment panel includes NZR Chairman Brent Impey, incoming (from January 2020) NZR Chief Executive Mark Robinson, NZR Head of High Performance Mike Anthony, former All Blacks Head Coach and NZR life member Sir Graham Henry and former Silver Ferns Coach and High Performance Sport New Zealand director, Waimarama Taumaunu. “This is a hugely exciting time for New Zealand Rugby. We know that the All Blacks and New Zealand have been served well by exceptional coaches, so we are well aware of the importance of the task ahead. “We believe we have an excellent group of people on the panel, balancing the experience of winning high performance teams and leadership with external perspective and experience.” NZR has already written to a number of coaches familiar with New Zealand’s professional rugby environment, to outline the appointment process and inviting them to apply. “This is an official employment process, and therefore it’s confidential. We are looking forward to announcing the next Head Coach of the All Blacks next month,” he said.

However, if Joseph can get a great, experienced defense coach, then it could be OK. Rennie will want to be a head coach, so I don't see him as that person, which means he'll coach Oz and will be dead to me.
I would suggest that Jamie Joseph would list Scott McLeod as his defence coach, bringing back his Highlanders 2015 team. He would also likely bring in Clarke Dermody as a scrum coach.
Which I assume means that Stormy wants to stay, come what may, because I assume he’ll be part of Fozzie’s team too.
Beyond that though, I’m not sold on Stormy anyway. I’m not sure if it would make the Joseph application better, although would make it stronger with some consistency.

@gt12 Who are the other options as defence coach? I am excluding Smith.
The first place to look would be the 5 SR teams but I'm not sure who they are. Delaney, McLeod's replacement, has left the Highlanders so we are down to 4 other choices unless someone else takes over that role like Mitchell did with England.

That doesn't seem the case though? Basically they are just looking for the best answer the question of "Who would your assistants be?".
It's not as though the candidate needs them waiting in the car park, ready to sign on - but they will need to do better than Robbie's "why would I need an assistant? But if you ask me at gunpoint I think Pat Lam is a talent".
You can get boxed in the other way too. Gatland and Robertson for different reasons might have difficulties getting the same quality of assistants which @Duluth has touched on inadvertently.

Funnily enough, this is the area where I’m happy to look overseas. If there is a better defense coach who isn’t a kiwi, get them.

I wasn't criticising you. Just laying out my 2 cents

Filling out my application right now.
I can't be arsed going to practices, so I'm going to be way ahead of the curve - a cyber-coach - doing everything via keyboard including tactics devised devised using Jonah Lomu Rugby and a bit of cross disciplinary Fortnite.
Rieko is my captain!
Apparently I need a team - so I need an Ass Coach and there's doubtless plenty of candidates here. No way are you getting the "istant" to go with that though!
