Of course we need a World Cup, Even Rugby League has a fucking world cup for crying out loud. The soccer world cup is always huge, no reason why ours cannot be too.

This world cup may be the first that has really started to take it to more of a global audience thanks to Japan being the host - that is my opinion and not a statement of fact.

And in all sports the favourite does not always win and the sun keeps coming up.

@Nevorian like all world cups, and the Olympics, the RWC is a TV event. It is the greatest vehicle rugby has to showcase the sport to the world

How about having a level playing field and a more league style type of competition where the top 8 or 10 teams play each other home and away over the course of say 2 years. This in my mind eliminates travesties such as teams getting easier runs in knock out tourneys,vagaries of skitz French refs,and teams approaching test matches inbetween World cups as "friendlies". Was it after RWC 2011?
Or after RWC 2015?
Or after the AB's demolished Ireland in the RWC 2019 QF?

Or is this line of thinking a bit more recent than that?
