68 minute. 5 metres from Wales line. Right in front of the posts.

There is an absolutely blatant PK for a tackler not rolling away and getting in the way of the ball coming out. The tackler smothers the ball and it gets stuck in the ruck.

Ordinarily, Peyper would have blown the pea off his whistle and awarded a PK to France. Instead, he awards a scrum for unplayable.

That’s the one I was blowing up about in the thread.

Social media gone made saying that ball was forward ,

Wouldn’t be a World Cup without some controversy

The camera angle not previously shown made it clear and obvious enough.

French supporters must be furious. Que diable se passe-t-il?

Live I wasn't sure what happened.

I went back and had a look. Peyper says something like "he's stuck in there, he can't get out" but I strongly suggest that if this was a regular game he'd not have accepted that.

An excellent attacking chance was killed. Really had to be a PK.

Perhaps rugby is simply too hard a game to referee when it's top level knockout rugby?

    @Damo

I think he just didn’t want to award the penalty that would have all but lost it for them. Interestingly enough though, he was happy to give the try that lost it for them....

Isn't that the point though? I'd estimate that 1 in 3 breakdowns a ref could justify a PK if he or she wanted to - the art is choosing when to award a PK and when not to. In situations of extreme pressure is it too hard for a ref to apply that good judgement evenly?

This case in point. A ref could easily justify the non PK by saying that the tackler was trapped, it wasn't his fault etc - and yet that same ref would not have had any hesitation in blowing the PK in normal circumstances.

Could have, and should have, been a night on the piss then Duty Free for Wales.

On a different day and/or a different set of officials Moriarty could have been red carded in the first half.

No argument about the French red.

Haven't seen the alternative angle but now appears the try should have been disallowed.

We played shit. We didn't deserve to go through to the SF.

    But we're there.

And we have a week to give ourselves plenty of uppercuts.

Wales have played and won a lot of Rugby matches in the last 12 months. That and the injuries are catching up with them.

That’s why the French are classed as the best lovers in the world.

Stay on top for 80mins and still come second.

Just a guess, but many of the Japanese fans didn’t want to get stuck in traffic or on the train on the way home and miss any of Japan match.

Not the best game from your lads Mike, and the Frogs can count themselves unlucky on one or two calls.
But then again they were their own worst enemy with that stupid RC. A real coach killer.

On the plus side for Wales, your boys hung in there and managed a victory even when not at your best. Next week you start fresh against my lot. I expect a squeaker.

It's hard to tell from that footage, but it looks to me that any delay is due to Les Bleus.

I for one am disappointed. SA vs FRA is more appetising than Wales. I haven’t sent anything from Wales this RWC to suggest they’ll beat SA.
