It is good point you bring up NTA, I tend to hold my breath wondering when it a penalty or not in a knock out of players hands situation. Or when it a knock out or a strip.
-

Poor old Ben, putting his head above the parapet and duly getting it shot off. All he is saying is that in his opinion NZ got a little more out of the officials than the Aussies. Not saying he's right and these things are almost always a matter of opinion, even if someone nerdy enough goes through the whole match listing the bad calls or no calls. Even then though it is still mostly a matter of opinion. Nowhere (that I could see) does Ben suggest the rub of the green influenced the eventual outcome of the match or that the Aussies should have won had so and so not done such and such etc.

Ben. When will you learn?

I shall be towing the forum line from now on. Fuck this having a different opinion shit. No-one wins.
-

Nice way to deflect, but whole point of a forum is to have a discussion. You put out an opinion and people disagreed with it, with examples of why they did, and asked you to back up what you said.

Having a tanty isn't going to make you any more right.
-

Can't, have plans at 12pm unfortunately.
-

As far as I am aware, no-one has asked me for examples, just called me obtuse. And, even if they did ask, I can tell I would get absolutely nowhere proffering them on here.

As I say, I'll just sagely nod and agree from now on. Putting your head above the parapet in any walk of life generally attracts opprobrium and disdain. The internet just magnifies that.

So, now, I've been talked round and am firmly in line.

How good was that ref?
-

I put up a post in support of you Ben, but it was quickly deleted.

Agree that Australians have every right to be aggrieved about some of the refereeing calls. And the acceptance of this has been very suprising from across the ditch. If some of those calls went against us, I think the reaction would be much different.

Go and watch weight of a nation. Make sure you cry several times whilst doing so, whilst thinking how proud you are to be a NZer. Never mind that it's just over the top, cheesy, ESPN type bullshit...... Then you'll fit right in here.
-

The ref undoubtedly made some errors that influenced the game. Both ways. Still rather have him ref a game than any of the other options. He also made lots of correct calls that influenced the game. After all that is his role.

To debate what would have happened if some of those decisions were reversed is just about the most pointless exercise possible, because of the butterfly effect. The AB forward pass is called. The resulting scrum collapses and Pocock is injured or Coles sent off or .....

Debate about the game is fine. Analysis of a reffing performance too, but given I don't think anyone is saying the Wallabies would/should./could have won the last couple of pages of this thread are just .. well fucking annoying really.

Can't we just get back to discussing the awesomeness of Black?
-

always find the analogy of putting your head up above the parapet amusing...I mean if you did that in the times when hiding behind a parapet, you expect to have an arrow sailing toward your head

So Ben, you make a point, people contest it with their reasons, surely you then respond in kind, or is that not how discussions work with you?

Of course Aus can be aggrieved with some decisions, as we can - I would bet there is not a single game of rugby where there is not a single refereeing decision that doesn't affect both teams.
-

That's exactly what I meant. Nepia appeared to take it as all decisions went NZ way and highlighted one that didn't to emphasise his point.

My understanding of 'rub of the green' is in line with yours, not Nepia's.

then we can disagree that Australia got the rub of the green.
-

just explaining to the welshman and saffa I sit next to that it's thanks to the Aura.. and that's also that strange feeling they can feel being so close to greatness.. :man_in_love:
-
Just watching the RWC final replay on the couch with a beer. Good times.

Man the commentators (especially Dayglo) are shite.

The first half we were immense and left loads of points out there. They were lucky not to be down by 30 at the break. -

Righto.

As I said, I don't think we got all the decisions but just felt we were on the right side of the ref (eg our - kickable - pen, their non - kickable - pen) on that particular day. It wouldn't have changed the result, mind as I think we were by far the better team. But I'd still be aggrieved if I was an Aussie. It doesn't seem they are though so, again, good for them; I believe it's the right spirit in which to take a (pretty fucking gut wrenching) loss
-

Not a fan of Dallaglio as a commentator but thought Nick Mullins was pretty good. I loved his comms after the drop goal. Classic bit of commentary, that.
