I now lay the trump card. This cannot be beaten.

Only because Bjork had more than one hit. Her singing ability is on a par with his.
Her and Beck have a sort of weird status amongst music nerds .

@Catogrande That certainly got airplay in NZ at the time - about 40 years ago, I'd guess!

That's like saying you only beat us 'cos you scored more points.

    Rules. There are rules.

This is the Hair-Metal One Hit Wonder that brought Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei together in The Wrestler.

    Vid stars Milton Berle.

This was a certified Number One single in the U.S.A.

Topped out at #22 in NZ.

(From memory I believe Hollywood movie releases in the 1970s sometimes took half-a-year from American public release to hit the screens in Auckland, so the lag may explain the discrepancy in charting position.)

Nit-picking, but I’ll concede the point. Their highest charting single post-Round and Round was “Lay It Down” which did indeed hit #40 on Billboard for all of one week. Nothing else from their catalog came anywhere near as high.

there's probably a pretty decent reason for that. I am still astounded they had 3 platinum albums, and one that went close!

This hit No. 1 in America in 1973. They never made top 40 again. Great song, amazing production.

And if this hasn’t been mentioned yet, how can you not? Strangely this is a staple of rock radio in USA still today but never actually charted higher in the States than #18 (wut??) whereas did chart Top Ten in NZ, Aus & UK

@Salacious-Crumb The third time Ram Jam has been mentioned. 🤣

The Ratt video I remember seeing the most on TV was "Wanted Man".

    Here's one. Loved the show.

    Purely in a Kiwi Context

Incredibly pretentious Bowie rip off but his wife was librarian at my school and didn't believe in wearing bras which meant as a 14 yr old I spent a lot of time in the library and always remember this song fondly

@dogmeat I like that song for its quirkiness.

For another NZ classic - The Crocodiles and "Tears". A young Jenny Morris and Bruno Lawrence on drums. This was their only big hit.
