What are you listening to, right now................

"Pop"would have been a better term than "mainstream". J Coles borders on pop I guess but their rhymes are tight and their flows are pretty much unmatched by any other rappers of their generation.

You can always go deeper and find some hungry as fuck word smiths that stomp on the shit you hear on the radio. But my point was that the King Kunta track is horrible pop shit whereas his usual stuff is very good.
-

JK taking me back to campus radio haze flashbacks. Those are a couple bands I haven't thought about for, hoooo, twenty years. I interviewed Red Kross on that tour, and photographed L7 a couple times on that particular tour. I don't remember anything about either experience. I'm sure it was fun. I'll have to drag the film and tape recordings out one of these days, but until you posted those I didn't think anybody would be the slightest bit interested.

Still love my old 90s grunge and alternative scene eh.

Pretty much saw all the bands that came to NZ in that era. Was good times.

Been listening a fair bit of that stuff on spotify lately. Sure brings back the memories.
-

Not sure if Come ever came down that way. Boston/NYC band, recorded for Matador, only around for a few years, but they were amazing. Saw them three times, and the best of the lot was the night before ABs opening game vs. Ireland at RWC1995 (a.k.a Jonah Unleashed), and that show was certainly one of best 5 shows of my life. Small club, rested my beer on the front of the stage, I was levitating and thinking it hard to imagine the Stones at their peak could have played so tight. If you enjoy Afghans and L7 you might like to add to your playlist.

"Gravedigger." This is from a 1971 movie "Zachariah." The song is about having sex with a corpse. I'm not sure these are connected, but I am very glad I found it.
-
