@Sneakdefreak My mate's uncle is apparently putting together a new team for Brisbane. Brisbane Bombers.

New training facility and purpose-built stadium I think near the airport. I already have some kit I wear proudly haha OG supporter.

Well they have my support. The Tits are no use to the NRL.

@Sneakdefreak Living on the GC I can tell you I would struggle to give the name of 3 titans and one of them would be Konrad Hurrell.....

No one I know supports the Titans, But the GC is a transient town. Most of the people who live here aren't from here. So they support other teams. To give you an Idea we run a work tipping comp and there is not one Titan supporter in the 20+ people who take part. A lot of the league loving population is Kiwi so they're all supporting the Warriors.

The Suns AFL team gets the same treatment. No one cares.

@raznomore as far as i can tell, people from the Gold Coast only support two things, narcissism and drug abuse.

As far as i can tell, the AFL and the Suns are looking real long term, and their target is the kids of those people who support existing AFL teams. They are in schools and regional areas in a big way. The state of the senior club is far from ideal, but it's not the be all and end all of the strategy (but continuing to be far from AFL standard would still be fatal).

Anecdotal evidence seems to suggest the Titans are ignoring this part of it, and are massively failing the local and kid engagement. You combine that with the continued bad decision making for the football team, and it's a disaster sitting there waiting to happen

@mariner4life yeah, I think I may have said something a while back about Suns players going to schools being at the Parks for age-grade footy and doing their part to feed grassroots.

Raz Jr trains & plays bball at Carrara Stadium every week and that is where the Suns are based. There are always Suns players coming in to watch the Kids play basketball. But in my experience, very few people seem to notice we have an AFL team.

Well the NRL needs to move to Perth but the Queensland league people would throw a hissy fit if it was the Titans relocating to Perth. Relocating to be the second Brisbane club (which was on the cards a few years ago) seems the logical choice.

There needs to be less Sydney clubs so moving one of them to Perth would be ideal but the NSW league people will throw a hissy fit over that too. So guess it's expansion time in the NRL.

i don't get the idea of moving the Titans to Brisbane. There are enough established Brisbane league identities to build off, without importing another club with a failed history that needs to build fans from scratch.

Not relocating the Titans as a whole, just the franchise licence to create a new club. The Tits go the way of the Chargers, Gladiators, Seagulls and Giants.

The Titans/NRL seem to banking on the very strong support for league that exists on the Gold Coast. School and local club comps are very strong at the junior levels. But in terms of buy in and connection with the Titans it’s not happening in the way that is building local support for them.

The thing with both the Suns and Titans they have great facilities. The Suns stadium is awesome to watch AFL.

Agree. A failed franchise will always carry the stigma of being a failed franchise.

If they do get another team in SEQ they should call it Ipswich-Wests or something like that. It will give them the entire area from the western suburbs of Brisbane and will include Ipswich, Springfield and maybe even Toowoomba. That would give the team more of a territorial identity and still include a large number of people in a rapidly growing area. But obviously it will have to be strong from the getgo or will flop like the Crushers.

Don't understand Redcliffe. Very strong league town, but low population. If Titans can't succeed at the GC then I don't know how Redcliffe will do any better.

every week the game they play in , is probably the game of the round that less people give a fuck about,

bit of a difficult one for the AFL,

but the Brisbane Bears were a bit like that in the beginning

Ironically the Brisbane Bears were originally playing precisely where the Suns play now in Carrara on the GC. It wasn't until they actually started playing in Brisbane (and started winning a few games of course) that they took off.

The merge with Fitzroy was the big one ,that’s where they created the great team that won a few flags, but before that , it was pretty ordinary and had a similar vibe to the suns.

They were actually getting some real momentum even before that. The move to the Gabba was massive. They made the finals in 95 and finished 3rd in 1996.

I thought in league you had to regather the ball when it goes forward, before you can make a pass?

Tough conditions out there. Looks slippery under foot and if you can step or change direction you are a chance to beat the defence.

Good speed off the ruck and Nikorima started it.
