Holy mackerill, the best of the Bay vs the best of the rest on the same day. Hopefully it will not be too much to ask for a couple of wins for both of the Bay's Super 8 First XVs at least.

@Higgins Yeah, Hastings v Rotorua is the clash of the current top two teams; and Napier v Hamilton the next two against each other. One of these four teams will take out the Super 8 title, but impossible to predict which one. Hope our Bay teams have a great day, tomorrow!

Up the 'farne. I have been following the Lindisafarne 1st 15 page there is a kid in the forwards last name is Savea. Any relation to the 7 foot Savea and the 200kg Toulon Winger?

As hard as it it is to say but congrats to HBHS on their victory away to Rotorua. We have to put aside all bias and support out cousins against outside invaders. Look forward to hearing the report from the NBHS match against Hamilton to learn of the really unlucky late against the run of the play call that gave the win to Hamilton.

Looks like the NBHS was close and could have gone any way - does anyone have a match report?

    Super 8
    New Plymouth BHS 1st XV 12 - 26 Hastings BHS 1st XV
    Rotorua BHS 1st XV 47 - 7 Napier BHS 1st XV

The score of the first game is flattering NP; Hastings dominated all game, but handling errors prevented them from scoring more tries, more so than the NP's defence (although they weren't bad; Hastings was just much better).

Napier had another off-day it seems. Only watched a few minutes when they were already down a few tries, and they seemed to have given up already. They scored their converted try in the last seconds of the game. I fear for the Polson Banner game on 3 August. They'll be dropping on the Super 8 table, too.

    Other results:
    Tauranga BC 19 - 21 Hamilton BHS

No more games until the last week of July.

Last week, Napier Boys won all its games against Feilding HS.
I've seen only one score. Napier 1st XV had a narrow win: 29 - 27.

The Polson Banner game between Napier Boys and Palmy Boys is tomorrow (Wednesday, 31 July). This year the sports exchange is in PN.

The 1st XV game is televised on Sky Sport 1 from 12.30pm, but also streamed on sideline app.

Bugger, after three years of consecutive losses, Palmy Boys have won the Polson Banner. They beat Napier Boys 27 - 15. A deserved win.

It doesn't seem to be Napier's season, although they play Palmy Boys again in two weeks in a Hurricanes knock-out match. I hope they can get their revenge then.

Hastings Boys are already certain of making the Super 8 final (10 August), with still one game to play against the current no. 2, Hamilton Boys, this Saturday in Hamilton.

Hamilton Boys can still be overtaken by Rotorua, who play New Plymouth on Saturday.

    Saturday, 3 August 2019

    Super 8
    @ Hamilton Boys:
10.30am: Hamilton Boys HS 2nd XV v Hastings Boys HS 2nd XV
12.00pm: Hamilton Boys HS 1st XV v Hastings Boys HS 1st XV

    Central North Island
    Home games:
    11.00am: Lindisfarne 1st XV v Wesley Coll
    12.00pm: St John's Hastings v Feilding HS

    Hastings Boys 1st XV:
    15 Mercedes Hodge, 14 Joeli Rauca, 13 Andrew Hayward, 12 Jordan Thompson-Dunn (co-captain), 11 Eldius Oli, 10 Latrell Ah Kiong, 9 Charlie Varcoe, 8 Cooper Flanders, 7 Connor Wadley (co-captain), 6 Fraser Taurima-Heperi, 5 Julian Goerke, 4 Emil Crichton, 3 Jeremiah Tuiatua, 2 Jacob Dorward, 1 Tini Nu'u.
Substitutes: Forwards, Aone Lolofie, Aloese Aiolupotea, Daemon Brough, Donovan Godinet, Arama Kite.
    Backs, Phillip King-Panapa, Mefi Tupou.

    Lindisfarne 1st XV:
1 Ben Thomassen, 2. Sam Horsefield, 3. Georges Vea, 4. Steve Black, 5. Kurtis Arlidge, 6. Fred Mowat, 7. Zinny Ropitini, 8. Tino Savea, 9. George Charteris, 10. George Twigley (C), 11. Josh Dixon, 12. Charlie Dods, 13. Jordy Douglas (VC), 14. Reece Akuhata, 15. Harry Mowat
Reserves: 16. Felix Paul, 17. Ben Gibbs, 18. Lanson Randell, 19. Kings Tupuola, 20. James Buckeridge

I don't know whether they forgot to type the names of the reserve backs on the bench, or that they really have only 5 reserves.

    Results Sat 3/8/19

    Super 8
Hamilton Boys HS 1st XV 26 - 3 Hastings Boys HS 1st XV

I think, by allowing Hamilton a bonus point win, Hamilton will now host the Super 8 Final next week, not Hastings.
Looking at their squad list, Hastings were missing several first choice players, so hopefully they'll have a full strength squad next week.

    Other results:
Rotorua BHS 47 - 3 New Plymouth BHS
Rotorua finishes 3rd; Palmerston North 4th

Still waiting for the remaining result between Tauranga and Gisborne, which will affect Napier's final position on the table (5th or 6th, both disappointing).

For the Hurricanes finals this means that Hastings will be the top qualifier from Super 8 (regardless of next week's result), and Palmerston North the runners-up. Napier will have to win the challenger match against Palmy Boys next week, if they want to play any role in the Hurricanes finals.

    Central North Island
    Lindisfarne College 22 - 27 Wesley College
    St John's Hastings 26 - 62 Feilding HS

Both Lindisfarne and St John's haven't made the semis; not really surprising. But at least St John's won't finish last this year. Rathkeale and St John's Hamilton will finish lower on the table.
