    From that article:

The fact he wants to wait until after the Super Rugby season will no doubt be interpreted by some as an indication he is set to sign for the Blues.

One would think if he was set to put pen to paper with the Hurricanes, there would be no need to delay such an announcement, as has been the case with the likes of Brodie Retallick and Sam Whitelock. An announcement of a shift away from his current club could be seen as a distraction through the playoffs.

But there could also be a unique scenario where he does not commit to any Super Rugby club until closer to his return.

Stuff understands Barrett will not make a decision until after the Hurricanes' campaign, preferring to focus on the Super Rugby playoffs before he switches his attention fully to his future.

Could it be that he is getting a sabbatical?

Makes you wonder why not just announce it if he's staying at the Canes.I think waiting may have a bigger impact on the Canes its an Elephant in the room.Waiting to after SR will fuel the move to the Blues rumour's.All the articles are pointing towards a Sabbatical at least for 2020.

@Hooroo possibly he will re-sign with NZR for 4 years, have a year out or NZ next year and then look at his Super options for 2021 in a year?

@Chris He better play well through the playoffs after causing this unnecessary distraction. The team is on a good run atm and the confidence is high, they don't need this sort of shit to derail their campaign.

@Chris Either one of Garden-Bachop, Smith, Marshall or McClutchie I would think.

@Chris That's for the second year of his Top League contract; so not a new contract. His contract with the Canes was only for one year, though, and he hasn't re-signed yet.

@Stargazer Boy its messy in relation to who is still playing SR with the Japan league changing dates, hard to know who is playing where, when and for how long in 2020.

@Chris Yes, it must be very confusing for all players - esp for those who signed contracts before 2019 - too. I hope their agents did a good job and that their contracts literally spell out the months/years they are signed for and not something like "the 2019-2020 top league season".

Interesting listening to this interview: https://www.radiosport.co.nz/sport-news/rugby/report-beauden-barrett-will-ditch-hurricanes-for-the-blues/

Patrick McKendry sounds almost adamant the deal is done. He will look like a big d%&k if this doesn't come to fruition. Says he heard from a very reliable source that Barrett is going to the Blues, it was also backed up by two other sources.

@Canes4life yeah he seems pretty sure,if he’s wrong you are right he’s going to look like a right muppet and lose a lot of cred as a journalist.

We've been here before. And if history repeats, then Barrett will stay with the Canes and the Blues will sign Shaun Johnson.

unsurprisingly, Jags gave the Sunwolves a beating, although was only 14-10 with 40mins on the clock
