@No-Quarter A bit of both I feel, but they're obviously doing something right to be where they are. Thought your forwards were a lot more competitive at breakdown tonight as well with Walker Leauwere making a bit of a difference in that area and Kirifi off the bench was also strong. Tonight's game was quite similar to when the Canes beat the HIghlanders in Dunedin.

Enjoyed that game but it sucked that Plummer and Nock came off so early.
Blues were stuffed from then on (yes Pulu is that bad)
For Blues thought Faiane, Akira, Papali'i were the standouts (alongside Nock and Plummer early).
Nonu did some good things but also some bad things - he butchered a try not passing to Rieko and fumbled a few times.
Blues are just mind numbingly dumb. They panic in the attacking 22 like a teenage boy around a hot girl.
Blues had to work so hard for their tries whereas Canes did not have to work nearly as hard for theirs.
Some darn weird calls both ways by the ref both ways but thats Super Rugby reffing these days.
For Canes Jordie did some great things but also did some average things - The TJ overhype on commentary was too much. Canes scramble defense sensational - loved the way they attacked the breakdown. You just knew Beaudie would do something freakish just a matter of when. Perenara was just superb. Ardie likewise.
I want to see Nock and Plummer combo again when they are fit.

Taking it easy on you.
On the game itself, Ardie once again got us home there. He has been consistently brilliant all year. I thought Walker-Leawere had a blinder and he has a big future. Everyone else in that pack were a bit meh - Kirifi was energetic when he came on. We won't be winning anything though if Toomaga Allen starts, he is just so damn weak at scrummaging.
In the backs Laumape was probably our best, he probably edged Nonu in the battle of the number 12's. Barrett brothers had a mixed bag, but Blues did well at times to put those two under pressure.
Overall enjoyable game and glad we got the result but we need to improve if we are any chance of winning the title.

We have two stupid people post after that thread, one with just a temp ban.

@kiwiinmelb Cane at 6, Ardie at 7 maybe? Just really depends who they pick at 6.

@Canes4life I'd never start Cane at 6; 6 cover at best. I think it will all depend on how well Cane plays when he comes back. I'm inclined to think that Ardie will get the start at 7 in the big games and at 8 in the lesser games (when they rest Read), unless Cane can convincingly show that he deserves the starting spot again.

Well, back from the game.
Fark.
7 9 10 the big difference. Our 7 was OK, too.
Plummer was stone cold knocked out. Couldn't stand up; took three goes, rubber legs, wandered aimlessly and then fell down. Could be his season done.
We're just not good enough to win wihtout our share of the 50/50 calls. And they didn't go our way tongiht. We lost because we're dumb, but the ref didn't help us to get our shit together. 5 scrum penalties under the posts, and no PT; but we didn't do anything with the ball that we had. Just ongoing stupidity.
Most frustrating game I've sen, and the stupidist this year. Bah, humbug.

And Cane is going to have hit the ground running in a big way .If Cane comes back in the next couple of games and doesn't get injured there is no way he won't be selected for the RC squads. From there he is still the preferred option to Todd so will go to Japan.
What they do once there is dependant on performances, gameplans and opposition.Cane is one of the hardest hitting tacklers so he ticks that box for 6. Also getting off the line and in the faces. He doesn't add to lineout options and isn't the guy you go to for carry over the gain line.
Those last two negatives could be cleverly worked around though.

Hansen seems to like Squire at 6I can see him having one of the two as the bench impact though instead of a 6.
Pretty sure that we may see them in tandem at some point.
