I am guessing no Jordan because of his injury? Didn't see the game last night. What did he injure?

So no Jordan, Enari, Funnell or Cameron. Hunt seems to be preferred again. Last ditch effort to re-sign him?

A much less speculative reason could be that Hunt is their 2nd best first five-eighth. Why leave him in NZ and opt for a player that's not even up to SR level?

    No Harmon either.

Strange not going is an interesting one after missing the squad last night - injured or demoted?

Jordan will be out due to injury - he limped off immediately he damaged something, so presumably knew it was a strain or tear rather than a knock.

On the injured list at present: Franks, Faingaanuku, Jordan, Perry - plus Dagg and Mataele gone for the season.

@Chris-B .. and Sanders (also out for the season IIRC).

I vaguely remember Strange limping when he left the field in the Lions game (not sure).

Not sure that's right. Pretty sure Mitch had the bench for the first few games. Then Cameron had a run of about four games - including a start vs the Waratahs and a cameo where he came on (against the Canes?) and his only significant contribution was a terribly sliced penalty touchfinder.

Since then it's been back to Mitch. I'd guess it's 7-4 or possibly 6-5 to Mitch in terms of appearances.

@Chris-B We sure need a quality young First Five next year if Hunt Goes.We need to bring through the next Mo'unga. Cameron even if he improves will not be that sort of quality.

Who's coming off that CBHS production line?

I guess Fergus Burke is in the frame somewhere since he's been brought down from the north?

Watch: Aaron Cruden's brother duels the next Beauden Barrett

The crossing of paths between Stewart Cruden and Fergus Burke could prove to be an historic one in the future.

I don't think there are any restrictions on numbers in academies, within reason. So I'm sure any promising locks would be involved.

Who's next? Assuming we don't like Fletcher Smith (and i don't), check out who's covering 10 for the Highlanders tonight.

It had felt to me like Cameron had gone past Hunt with the Waratahs start and bench opportunities. But you're probably right that the poor performances and maybe a bit of rotation are a more likely explanation.

With Brett Cameron still developing (and it won’t matter how dominant he might look in the upcoming NPC he still won’t be Super Rugby ready), I could see the Crusaders going for another Mike Delany.

Not sure there will be anyone of his ilk running around in the NPC this season. Beaver perhaps?

Another option is to loan out Bateman to a needy NPC team (Southland maybe) to play a full season at 10 as preparation for a role as the Crusaders third first-five.

Be amazing if they could lure back a Tom Taylor or Colin Slade for a couple of years toward the back end of their careers.

Or get McKay back from the Highlanders and give him plenty of time at 10 in the NPC. With Hunt going and Dagg retired, McKay certainly wouldn't get any less game time than the pittance received in Dunedin in 2018 and 2019.

@Stargazer Chris Jack over Blackadder. Although Ali player a year there didn’t he? So Ali. That would be funny.
