Are you watching the death rattle of all authentic sports?

I feel greatly saddened and wanted to express this. Not sure others feel the same way but....
After almost 38 years of passionate (and i mean passionate) sports following of Rugby, league, cricket and boxing etc I feel we are now watching the death of true competitive sports.
-
Politics has fully taken over now.
-
Freedom of speech no longer exists
-
Money dictates the ruling opinion
This rugby world cup potentially could have a host of world-class athletes sitting on ths sidelines and a lot of people not tuning in because of peoples beliefs. To believe in and to believe not.
The end of true sport is almost here.
Why? Because of politics.
End of the day everyone is different and everyone should be allowed freedom of speech and belief. Whether you agree with their opinions is up to you.
An atheist, a Christian, a Satanist, a Muslim, a capitalist, a socialist should all be welcome to play and all welcome to have their own opinions they can express. We dont have to agree with them.
Isn't that normal life anyhow?
Politics is using sports to enforce cultural identity. The day this was allowed was the day true sports died.
The days of the best playing the best are about to leave us. What we will be left with is an inferior product.
And not true sport.
What we are left with is what we are conditioned to be allowed to watch.
Politics should have no place in sport.
Its not about right or wrong because they are clearly subjective.
Enjoy what true fair sport you have left now because its almost over.
The last 38 years were a pleasure.
Hysterical post. And a ridiculous one. "Politics" has nothing to do with the way Israel Folau is being sanctioned by Rugby Australia. I'm very happy to watch a sport where bigotry and prejudice are not tolerated.
I think you'll find its actually spelled Fauleaux .

The standard of play, fitness, coaching, facilities, match day experience has all improved substantially.
I agree with the coaching and fitness but the match day experience is probably still the same.
As for the standard of play improving, the kicking skills and percentages of older players like Don Clarke or Villepreux with no tee and wet, heavy leather balls was astonishing. (I read once Clarke had a 75% -ish success rate on conversions)
And as for offloads....

Freedom of speech still exists - anyone (in most countries) - anyone is free to say anything. What happens as a consequence is the debated point
A society where you can lose your job for legally expressing an opinion is not a society which has freedom of speech.
Sportsmen and woman who express an opinion and speak out for gay rights (rightly) aren't dropped from their teams - but those with an opposite view are.
As you say, sport reflects society.
100% agree. Least somebody on this thread gets it.
Thats a bloody worry.

and how is that leading to the death of sports? It's not

I’m looking forward to the day some wealthy blokes daughter misses out on a rep spot in a team to a Troon and sues the governing body . In a litigious country like the states where people pretend to be woke as fuck to avoid becoming a hashtag it can’t be far away from happening and should result in weeks of entertainment.
You never know suing sports governing bodies for being fucking idiots could be the next spectator sport .

Imagine what those communist countries could have done back in the day with Troons. No naturally born woman would have won another Olympic medal.

On subject. This is a piss drop in the ocean compared to the political interference occurring in South African rugby for last 15 years.
Albeit, it's more subtle over there. Players from there miss our on playing a world cups for economic reasons as they give up and leave. Economic reasons created by racist politics.

FloJo must have been sailing close to the wind there , you see pics of her at the LA olympics and then Seoul and it’s like she was a different “ woman” .
I’m a bit confused though , people covering their arse to avoid fucking off sponsors doesn’t seem anywhere near as damaging to sport as the massive state sponsored steroid programs the Eastern block governments were balls deep into before the wall came down .

Yeah those roids tend to do that. She died ridiculously young as well. The Chinese athletes who won everything at the 1994 swimming championships in Rome also looked like they had cocks.
State-sponsored doping programs are still around. Just look at Russia.

Think the thread creator is thinking more about Folaoww than 'all authentic sports'.
Apparently we're facing a widespread boycott by the Wallabies (we aren't), and even PI players in other nations (we aren't).
The World Cup will be a shell of itself, with players cowering in post-match interviews if they are asked about political subjects (which happens frequently as we all know).
Meanwhile Nigel Owens will once again be cheered and given big finals, as the gay agenda continues to take over the rugby world.
Where will it end? Will we all be forced to wear rainbow jerseys? Will a passionate kiss replace the post-game handshake, lest we be accused of homophobia?
I mourn the game we once knew and loved... in a strictly heterosexual way. Not that there's anything wrong with being gay. Wait, fuck. Oh god, now the lynch mob is going to come after me. Shit.
