Saw several posts on the Highlanders' and Naholo's instagram (yesterday) with Patrick Osborne. With the message "he's back". Not sure whether that means he's just on a break and visiting his former Highlanders team mates, or whether he's back in the squad (as injury cover).

Itโs like Aki and Anscombe after the Wales Ireland game.
Sharing some love after escaping from their embattled homeland and finding greener pastures to thrive

saw this on FB...so a competition you have won almost half your games, is tougher than the one you win a bit over a quarter...
-
@Stargazer I'm 1/3 so far this weekend...just seen reds/stormers result

Hmmm, the loss of Japanese sponsors is a valid point, but let me guess, the Tahs also don't like losing a guaranteed Australian home QF spot that isn't based on points total but on a conference format? And don't like losing the advantage of playing weaker Australian teams twice?
-
-
I like it. Except for you know, all the things wrong with it.
Neutral venue? Pretty fucking hard to do when you take geography in to account.
Play anywhere you want? Hmmmm do i live in a 3rd world country like South Africa, or Dunedin, or go live in Sydney? For more moneyBut for the tests i would welcome any change to the current format of the RC. It's shit.
There is no solution to the SANZAAR problem that will keep everybody happy.
-
@mariner4life No Problem with The Rugby Championship changes but Super Rugby all geared to make SA and Australia Stronger no more finals in NZ all our best players overseas Fuck off
-
@taniwharugby A final at a neutral venue? Ridiculous idea. That would be the death of SR franchises. There's nothing better than attending a home final of your own team, or any NZ team for that matter. Considering broadcasters are apparently pushing this, it seems to be an attempt to get the stadiums even emptier and more people in front of the telly. I mean, who would fly to Brisbane to see a Lions v Hurricanes final? Or to Hong Kong for a Blues v Waratahs final? Or to Johannesburg for a Chiefs v Rebels final? Or to Tokyo for a Crusaders v Sharks final?
And how many Kiwis would attend a Lions v Waratahs final in Auckland or Wellington?
And mid-week games for the TRC? Seriously.
The 'marquee player' concept is effectively proposing a safe zone for the movement of players, allowing them to move overseas but to countries in the same competition, meaning no schedule clashes and a closer high performance relationship. Having Australians playing in South African teams, for instance, could also help boost interest in the traditionally poorly-watched games between South African and Australian teams.
'Marquee players' playing for other SANZAAR franchises? Which All Black would want to play for an Aussie or Saffa team? If they want to leave NZ for the money, they'll go where the wages are better and that's not in Oz, SA or Argentina. I can imagine some Springboks, Wallabies and Pumas wanting to play in NZ for the better rugby, but it would be a one-way street, wouldn't it? Franchises here would sign them in case of injury or holes in their depth, but that would weaken Aussie & Saffa teams and the Jags, which is not what anyone wants. Would be bad for the comp.
There would also be themed rounds across the competition, a single sponsor for Super Rugby and consistent time slots in each nation.
One single sponsor? Which sponsor is willing to throw that much money at the comp? Wouldn't that give that one sponsor too much power over the comp? And consistent time slots? Don't we have that already?
