@nzzp Say it aint so Dave.

Surely coaching the Wallabies kills off any chance of an AB coaching spot?

You'd think so. But then, if you turn those guys around, why the hell not?

If it were me (y'know, renowned for my keyboard coaching skills :D), I'd insist that the coaching comes with a need to re-form and change the player pathways, and a root and branch re-emphasis on pathways, and where the support goes. Wales did it, and it's sure as hell made a difference

    He's now dead to me.

Although, Oz have really missed a trick, they really should hire your idol the Hammettuer to help lighten their salary load.

I don't see why not? Going directly from another international side directly to the AB HC job is likely always going to be a challenge for obvious reasons.

Throwing your toys out of the cot, trashing the NZRU, and having sub-par results with the Wallabites is what effectively ended Deans' career as a top flight coach.

Yeah, and doing it all in our media cycle too. Front and centre for comments, any time anything happens.

I think Deans showed how not to do it, but it is tougher to come from Aus coaching to ABs. Europe is a good option for many other reasons (including very different playing/coaching conditions)

I don't get it if Rennie goes to Aussie - he must know that puts paid to coaching the ABs in the short to medium term. If he's available next year, why isn't he part of a team, including other key coaching talent floating about, bidding the AB job? I call bullshit.

But if he goes to coach them, he'll be dead to me. Go make your money - almost - anywhere, but Australia is out. Your key performance indicator would be taking back the Bledisloe Cup; there is not much Chiefs mana in that.

The Chiefs have melted down already, there's no need to bring in the Hammettuer.

    Sure you boys want Joe?

Joe Schmidt blames Ireland's defeat to Wales on Warren Gatland finding out his team early | Wales Online

    Ireland's coach is not happy

Schmidt claiming Gatland had an unfair advantage when an Irish website published the Irish team on Wednesday.

Once Liam Williams was declared fit Wales had an unchanged side, and even if Williams hadn't made it, it was a straight swap with Halfpenny.

So Schmidt had 14/15 of the side confirmed at the final whistle against Scotland a week in advance.

Then 15/15 of the starting 15 on Tuesday.

Take your medicine like Eddie did Joe.

    You were outcoached.

    And outplayed.

Schmidt's halo has slipped somewhat in the last month or two but let's wait until the RWC.

Maybe Schmidt or Cotter in the coaching set-up, but I'd prefer a coaching team which has plied it's trade in NZ first.

Perhaps an admission's test - turn around the Blues...

That's a bloody hard test mate! I think we've won two world cups since the Blues made the playoffs?

@Nepia If they're going to change the Crusaders' name, I wonder if they'd consider "The Hammers"?

The psychological advantage would be worth two wins a season over the Hurricanes! ๐Ÿ™‚

@DaGrubster said in Who does TSF want to be the next AB coach?:

The NZR should remove the international coaching requirement/nice to have as it has contributed to the coaching drain, which is hurting as just as much, if not more, than the player drain. Bar robertson and Handsen, all the best NZ coaches are overseas now.

Isn't this year the perfect example of why the NZRU supports coaches doing extended OEs?

Gatland and Schmidt are turning down big dollar extensions with top 5 test playing nations to return to NZ with 11 and 8 years of international coaching experience between them. Neither were remotely close to an AB coaching candidate prior to leaving, and now both are viable options.

Very happy for these guys to take their lumps elsewhere .

Whilst not being "remotely close" 11 and 8 years ago who knows what they may have achieved if they had stayed in NZ rugby and had success at Super and NPC level.

Gatland has been in the conversation for a looong time. Schmidt probably only the last two years.

This introduction to "the conversation" may have been amplified by being in the international eye. But if they had had the same success as Razor at domestic level I'm sure they'd be being talked about anyway.

Coukd live with either. Preference perhaps Gats, even if the rest of the world hates us enough already. But I really kinda like tge idea of Razor.

He's got to get a haircut though. It's turning into a combover.

Hard getting coaching gigs here - you're up against former all black bias (JK, Hammett, Tana). Not convinced they'll get a fair crack necessarily

You can't tell me they couldn't do as a good a job or better than those three, Cooper or MacDonald to date

The Hammers with Hammeteur at the helm - you've heard of the fall of the Roman empire right? It's all falling it to place.
