Also Kohli going home takes away a fair amount of interest. Beating them with no Kohli and Bumrah puts a fairly large asterisk next to the W.

Coming back to this - rolling them for 92 and then slapping them by 8 wickets goes some way towards removing that asterisk.

Also, we can now say to any arrogant Indian fans "you're nothing without Kohli", which is sure to rile them up a bit.

Some Indians genuinely believe he was better than Bradman.

The fluffybunny wasn't even the best batsman of his generation.

I think we won a bit too well. Good to thrash them but we didn't learn too much going forward.

    Good win.

Unfortunately, we didn't learn much about our batting line-up except that Guptill is still finding ways to get out quickly and Nicholls isn't an immediate bust as an opener.

Given the Indian selectors something to ponder. Personally, I'd recall Kohli, Bumrah, Shami and Dhoni and see whether that makes a difference. 🙂

It really stood out how much better Nicholls is technically than Munro. He's come a long way in the last 12 months, I'd say he's a much better bet to open. He at least has the ability to score runs against the better attacks.

Yeah - although we already knew that. I'm much more interested to see his mindset and temperament tested when he's opening and we need to make 300.

    Everybody back on the bandwagon!

Loving Nicholls opening the batting (and Munro being dropped). Posted that suggestion a fortnight ago and it's good to be proven right. God I'm awesome. Smash that like button. I think I have heat stroke.

"A bit disappointed the game didn't go longer to look at some of our players Kane?"

" No, we play to win"

    Good lad

Be interesting to see who makes the cut for the last ODI. CdG advanced his case, not sure Henry did. Would like to see Nicholls open the batting again, so not really sure if there is a place for Munro.

@Mokey esp if that lets us load the middle order with a few more all-rounders. Wonder if we might see Satner, the Neesh and CdG coming in after Latham. Although I'd go Neesh, CdG then Satner in terms of batting order. Or do we give Munro a crack lower down the order?

As much as I dislike Munro I tend to think he'll make the WC squad but they'll look for Nicholls as an opening option now and potentially rotate them. We only really have six reasonably experienced ODI batsmen so we're limited for choice unless they try someone new VS Bangladesh (Mitchell if he goes good in the T20s VS India?)

@Paekakboyz I think it's pretty pointless trying Munro lower down - he's not a good enough bowler to warrant a place at 7,8,9... and I think Neesham and de Grandhomme are better options at 6 - much better bowlers and equally likely to come off batting - in fact, I reckon Neesham is simply a better and more versatile batsman than Munro.

That said, I agree with Shark. I reckon Munro will make the CWC squad, because it's too late to find a credible replacement. As young Gill showed again today - everyone has a learning curve and it's too much to expect a new guy like Will Young will take to ODI cricket like a duck to water. As much as Munro isn't the long term answer, he's probably a better bet than a complete rookie - as our bench option.

Pretty much the same team, I think with - depending on the pitch - Southee (or Ferguson) perhaps coming in for either Astle or Henry.

    No place for Munro. 🙂

Good to win but yet to see a competition. Our guys chasing down a target, or defending a total... so many questions, and still leaves you with the feeling that we will struggle when the pressure is on

Today was about a swinging ball but not many days in international cricket that the ball swings or seams anymore.

He is a slogger who only fits into one game plan. I'm not convinced he has the technique to play any other way

Comparing across eras, especially that far apart is silly.

Tendulkar prior to his elbow injury in the early 2000s, was head and shoulders better than anybody else since Bradman. Those who watched him when he was in his prime with objectivity and understanding of the game know this. The rest, doesn't really matter.

Unfortunately when he was in his prime for the 2nd half of the 90s, India - like NZ today, hardly played enough test cricket. You lot will understand this better when 5 years down the road, other fans come along and shrug off Kane as just another ordinary batsman.
