Spark Sport

In theory at least, Spark, Vodafone and 2Degrees have the least to gain from fibre, because selling broadband using their mobile networks (and cable for Vodafone) make them more money than fibre.
In my experience, 3G struggles but 4G is watchable. 5G is apparently going to be amazingly fast, but it won't be in place in time (especially not in the rural areas).

To be fair to Spark, they are mostly reliant on Chorus for Fibre, but that's rolling out quite well, and there are things being done for more rural areas as well.
Spark has got a fucking sight more influence on Chorus than pretty much anyone else, so they need to get their arse into gear to press for enhanced fibre rollout and whatever else to ensure as many people as possible are satisfactorily connected.
A technological "fail" on RWC is entirely unacceptable. If it occurs, those responsible need to be jailed....if not executed!
The Chinese way!

@stargazer Sumo pissed off he didn't join the Sky junket on the EOYT. Or maybe they already knew...
I'm sure they'll dust the cobwebs off Quinn and McBeth soon.
He must have a long term plan, because it doesn't make sense to jump off the Sky bandwagon for the sake of one tournament

Maybe he can see the writing on the wall for Sky Sports?
Can't say I am unhappy. I really like him as a pundit centre piece and a commentator.
Well done TVNZ.

I have to say I have been very impressed with the new sport streaming service here in Australia called Kayo(foxtel offshoot) . For $25 a month cancel anytime it is the answer to all my rugby needs. I split it with the mother in law as you can have at least 2 logins at a time.
It works well, you can skip forward quickly without problem. They have loads of different sports and have replay options for a little while after the game. This system would work well for RWC and I hope like hell they have rights for next year.
I was always pissed off having to buy a package from Foxtel so this is awesome. I assume Sky may do something similar in future.
The flipside to this is Optus, a phone network got the rights to the Soccer WC and it was a giant fuck up. The stream was poor quailty and kept buffering. It was so bad they allowed a TV broadcaster to show it for free just so people could watch games. Let's hope Spark and TVNZ have a decent system.

I was wondering about that. Melodie Robinson also announced today she's leaving Sky (not sure where she's going). Maybe more to follow?

She was moved to corporate comms manager some time ago.
Sky still has the SANZAAR rugby rights which is the bulk of our rugby.

I guess Sumo wants to call AB games, fair enough. Might have to reign his use of nicknames and personal anecdotes with the players.
I like his actual call of the games otherwise.
As we said on that other thread about commentators, it would be nice if they sounded like they enjoyed rugby instead of complaining all the time.
-
@hooroo yeah I like him too, I know some dont.
Think the Sky team needs a freshen up anyway.
I reckon Marshall would be better suited to an analysis role, where I think he has great insights, but as a live comments man....

@canefan have to compare him with TJ and Nisbett. Not sure TJ is better at all.
Hope they get Merhts for expert comments. Or Mexted for comedy value
Those three would be great. Mex's clumsy unintended sexual innuendos wouldn't sit well with the #metoo set though

what he meant to say was "they can fuck themselves"
actually that's an interesting question. Is it possible to sexually assault yourself? Like, i don't really want to jerk off, but i am going to anyway. Or if it's to some questionable materiel that you are a bit ashamed of?

@mariner4life or you change your mind half way through...
