Rugby Australia Hunting Coach Who’ll Fix Every Systemic Problem Within Their Organisation – In 11 Months

    ERROL PARKER | Editor-at-large | Contact

The nation’s peak rugby union body has announced this morning that they’re on the lookout for a coach who will fix the myriad of cultural, structural and social problems that have plagued the organisation in recent years.

Under-siege Wallabies coach Micheal Cheika was all but guaranteed his job until next year’s World Cup but as he’s not been able to rid Rugby Australia of its issues, Rugby Australia is on the hunt for a coach who will.

“We aren’t confident in Michael’s ability to win the World Cup next year,” said RA head Raelene Castle.

“So he needs to go. We need a coach who will get us to the quarters or semis, where we will be comprehensively dismantled by Ireland or the All Blacks. That will take the pressure off the executive, which is ultimately responsible for the death of the sport over the past 20 years,”

“We’re also looking at getting whoever the new coach is some quality cattle. We’re looking for the next Matt Rogers and Lote. Code jumpers should band-aid the problems for the time being. At the end of the day, if the executives and marketing shit kickers can keep their jobs and get another swirl of the toilet, that’s all that matters,”

“And all this needs to happen in 11 months.”

The Advocate reached out to the Players Association for comment but all were too afraid Hoops would find out.

    More to come.

@jegga no mate. It just looks like I did. The last line about being too scared to tell Hoops was beyond my comic ability.

And is a game plan at least one RWC cycle out of date. I'd contend that they'd not get out of their pool playing that way.

There's a team playing in green at the moment who are very successfully replicating a significant part of JW's game plan...

@jegga thing is, Aus will be all but scraping the barrel whichever way they turn at present, knee jerk decision due to somethign they should have done a year or more back, but at the time didnt due to not alot of options.

Also, dont forget it's thier fault we only won 83.3% of our games this year.

Ah - the article didn't load up on first reading. Yes people will point to Jake White's record, but his approach ran out of steam at the Brumbies once people played simply better rugby.

Several reasons why a change of coach won't work, but mainly the entire system is fucked, and we can't go around paying out contracts when we don't have any money.

We can look ahead to 2023 if we make the kind of decisions NZRFU did back in 2007 after France.

Our crowning achievement: being so shit we gave Codmouth Hansen an out for his team losing twice 😉

One three way draw in the tri nations and Xmas cards to Wayne Barnes for life? The year before the Rwc his team went almost 50 points to nil to the wallabies, great coaches don’t take hidings like that with the cattle he had

At that point we were like the France of the Southern Hemisphere. Just could beat certain teams by a ton one week, and then get humped the next.

Assuming Cheika is gone after RWC who would be on the ARU shortlist for potential replacements? They have somewhat missed the cycle with many moves made in the past 6 months at Super and International level that have committed good coaches beyond RWC.

If Cheika is dumped they might almost be better off giving the incoming coach a two season deal, let the Aussie franchise coaches get more seasoning and sound out international coaches in a way that doesn't appear completely desperate.

If the ARU is hell bent on Cheika seeing the contract out then bring in a technical advisor. Maybe they can shake a deal for one of the experienced Top League coaches (of which White is one) on ice until 2020 to take a one year role.

@rotated there are a bunch of people all for grooming Dave Wessels. But a very short period as head coach of a franchise and then national might just screw him, and us.

Really, as I said above: it doesn't matter who, because the cattle and the system are shit.

@nta yeah, looking from afar changing the coach isn't going to be the cure all.

Cheika hasn't gone from highly successful in Ireland to worthless in one assignment, similarly for Link and Robbie

    See a pattern here?

Who leaked the news of a scheduled meeting with White? Is Hooper back yet? 😉

The fact that this became public seems to have saved Cheika.
