@taniwharugby I meant that perhaps there is a first five spot open at the Blues because Plummer is a development player next year.

    @tim Wainui also plays centre.

If I was being optimistic I'd say that the coaches may have waiting to see who shines in the M10 Cup for the other midfield spots. Aumua may get a reprieve with a good season with Ta$man but Verney can't impress if he is injured. The Chiefs really need another 2nd 5 so Tupaea should be someone looked at closely. I'd prefer ALB to be playing at centre.

Tupaea is looking good, surely the Chiefs have to snap him up....

    I found this article:

The Chiefs 2017 schoolboy recruitment haul - 5 of the best

The Chiefs 2017 schoolboy recruitment haul - 5 of the best

The Chiefs may well have won the class of 2017 recruitment race - believed to have secured five of the best New Zealand schoolboys.

@bovidae I've always thought Mua might be a bit small - maybe I'm misremebering? Flanders is probably the one they should have gone hard for in that Hastings pack last year ... I think even the Canes managed to see over their Wellington borders to pick him up. Also, didn't Mua chose playing for a Samoan team over an NZ team?

But, Tupaea is definitely a good pick up.

@nepia From what I remember of Mua, he wasn't big but strong for his size and excellent at the breakdown. These schoolboys have time to put on size in the gym.

He played for the Samoan sevens team at an invitational schools tournament in honour of his grandparents from memory.

But there have been players who missed the NZ U20s one year and played for Samoa only be make the NZ U20s the following year. It doesn't exclude you from selection.

There are spaces available for Tupaea and Nanai in the 2019 Chiefs squad.

@nepia Yeah Flanders has signed for the Hurricanes on a three-year contract. Very relieved!

I think Mua cuts from a similar mould to Kirifi - who ironically was in the Chief's catchment but has now signed with the Canes. Both not the biggest, but they are very strong with ball in hand.

Jeriah Mua was selected for the second NZU20s camp this year, but then he got injured (just like his brother, who was invited to the 1st camp), so he wasn't picked for the Oceania Championship and JWC. He will still be eligible in 2019 (not his brother).

heard through the chiefs grapevine they are trying too offload Tiaan Falcon and sign Fletcher Smith..
Interesting developments this one,Marty McKenzie still having ongoing head issues.
Also Ayden Johnstone the Waikato loosehead has signed with the Highlanders..

I hope they succeed. Fletcher Smith has a great set of skills and just needs lots more big game time. He compares favourably with Cameron, Perofeta, Hunt and co.

@steven-harris Why get rid of Falcon and keep MMac? And with "offload" Tiaan Falcon, do you mean de-list or getting another franchise to take him? I understand Smith has a bit more experience than Falcon, but Falcon is the more talented player. Odd move if they keep Mmac.

I'd be wild if they got rid of Falcon to keep MMac and Debrezeksy or whatever that Aussie is called. Get rid of both of them, and keep Falcon and FLetcher behind Dmac, with Stevenson and Alaimalo at 15. Sorted.

I like Fletcher Smith, so he'd be a good pick up for the Chiefs but not at the expense of Falcon, especially if they re-sign MMac and they've already signed the Aussie.

Not sure if anyone has said this, but I heard Scotty Stevenson say on commentary in the last Taranaki game that Reuben O'Neill had signed for the Chiefs for next year, seems like Graham might miss out on the squad next year.
Also, I hope they don't drop Falcon from the squad, I think MMac is off contract next year so I doubt he'll be back, but if they have signed Debreczeni they probably won't have a spot for Fletch.

Sam Nock reckons he is with the Blues again next season.

As a Hurricanes supporter I hope it is J Garden-Bachop that is heading to the Highlanders.

@higgins Poor Highlanders haha. But yeah, F Smith would be a good signing for the Canes, if true. JGB wouldn't get much game time at the Canes as he'd drop to 4th behind BB, Smith and Marshall.
