JK. 11 over front nine and 1 under back nine. May I ask, had you been drinking the night before?

My worst recollection of such a thing was in a Texas Scramble (that's Ambrose to you colonials), where i'd been royally fucked over the night before by my host and on the first tee the next morning my liver went into spasm on the backswing. I scuffed the ball about 180 metres from the tee and my partner (and drinking buddy) had somehow managed to put a 9 iron just on the green, leaving a 7 metre downhill putt for a birdie, which of course I stuck right into the middle of the hole. Hey 4 points on the first hole. At the end of the 9 holes we came in with 5 points in total.

Worst thing was we were playing at Walton Heath - a Ryder Cup course. For some reason or another I have not been invited back.

played the other week. course was a bit wet (monsoon season not the best for golf). i hit my irons pretty high, so if you hit a boggy bit, your ball would just disappear. gutting.

Have a couple of days in Coolum next month, might try out Palmers championship course there, looks decent

Played in the Pupuke golf clubs centenary Ambrose tournament today. It was 6 man team where you split in to two teams of 3 and each of the first team all tee off and then the best ball is used for the next 3 players to play from, and so on. Hadn't played like this before but it was surprisingly quick given there were almost 200 players on the course. Difficult to get in to a rhythm though.

We ended up a net 59 so not good enough to win (bet 55) and had a couple of bogeys in there due to woeful approach shots followed by woeful chipping. Our 2nd shots let us down all day really but was a bloody good bit of fun. Course was in great nick and it was cool to be back at my old club. Even caught up with a few of the old boys I hadn't seen in over 15 years

It was quite a high pressure format but needed to be that way given so many people wanted to be in on the tournament.

I have Masters Monday tournament in 2 weeks at titirangi. Really looking forward to it and have what I think is a better team this year with handicaps of 7, 12, 19 and 27 with the 27handicapper being a big unit who often hits a very long ball.

Couple of interesting rounds lately...

Sunday I played at Aviation golf course which is out near the Auckland Airport. Not a great track but hadnt played there before. Got there to see a sign saying 'Greenkeepers Revenge' on the starting tee...doh! Tees back as far as they would go, play the lie and some pretty testing pin placements. 6113m off the blue tees per the card but I swear it was longer. Anyway, played the worst golf I have in about 10 years and carded a 92. Front nine of 47 included no pars but two 2's which were both 3-4foot putts. I think I had 23 putts on the front nine all up....rubbish.

That was supposed to be a warm up for our Masters Monday at Titirangi yesterday so I didnt turn up full of confidence but it was ambrose right so no worries. We ended up shooting a very respectable 63 gross in often windy conditions and net 53.5 to finish 2nd overall. We had a rare ambrose 3 putt in there which led to a bogey which ultimately cost us the title.....bugger! Great day though and an excellent course that I like more every time I play it.

It's a great course, and was in great nick too. I'd love to join there but a bit far from home. Will probably join north shore next year

Hmm, first hit out of the year. 18 holes on the short course at Woodbury Park (the course formerly owned by Nigel Mansell). Started off quite well and lipped out for a par on the first, but from then on it was military golf - left, right, left, right. Some good shots but none in a row sadly. I suppose a couple of trips to the driving range in the days before may have been the right idea. Must get some practice in as I have a society comp next week and I don't want to embarrass myself.

Anyone catch ANZ Golf World last night? Had a feature on Pupuke's 100 years on it. Quite a few familiar faces there with a very young Lydia plus Guy Wilson and Mike Hendry
