2018 Black Ferns

The problem for the BFs and other womens sports isn't so much that they're competing with their male counterparts, but they're competing with the wider entertainment industry that includes movies and high quality TV viewing on demand these days. The men struggle to get big viewing numbers let alone the women.

I was once on the womans rugby is shit train, didn't watch it.
Then I watched the WC final where we beat England and it was fantastic.
I don't think you can expect to view it the same way you do the senior men's - it's a different beast, much less physical, which on the flip side means there are few fewer stoppages.
Admittedly this was the game's showpiece, and at the very upper level, but as a sport, I found it enjoyable, which I wasn't expecting honestly.

How many games have you watched since?

FYI. Since the women's World Cup last year, Sky has televised approx. 15 of the 40 women's NPC games (about 6 Premiership & 6 Championship round robin games; 2 of the 3 semi-finals and the 2 finals). Most (not all) of these games were played and broadcast at the same time as Mitre 10 Cup games. Only a few of the best players (Black Ferns) played from the beginning of the Farah Palmer Cup; most of them joined their team halfway through the competition.
There has only been one test match (last week) since WC.

How many games have you watched since?
The exact amount which has been televised. Zero.
However, I did go looking for the NZ vs OZ game this weekend, but it wasn't televised here.

Not that I’ve seen.
No idea where you are going with this. They televise NPC here but I don’t watch it.

I am wondering about the follow through. You watched a match and enjoyed it. Good for you. I was just wondering how keen it made you to watch more, and if you went out of your way to watch more women's rugby.
Because I think the follow through will be close to zero for most. -

Because I think the follow through will be close to zero for most.Ok, fair enough - and if you compare apples with apples, then its' fair to say that some follow through is there. As I did intend to watch the NZ vs Oz game last week, but couldn't as it wasn't televised - I'm not a big enough of a fan to go illegal streaming it.
During the last 6N, there was a woman's 6N tournament as well which was well supported. I watched Wales vs England, which was also a good match, although with no skin in the game, I wouldn't say it was turning point for me.
You are correct if you think I won't watch a club or even a regional game, thats true. But if I see the Black Ferns are playing on TV, then I'll definitely watch.

Whether someone likes a particular sport (male or female) will come down to your personal preference. I enjoy watching a wide range of sport but there are some that I have no interest in.
I think the first women's game I watched live was a NZ v Eng test in the late 1990s. Free entry helped.

My reptilian brain tells me no rugby man should assume any value from "professional" women's rugby unless they've been hen pecked into thinking they should give a shit, or to see how many are rootable.
It's like saying you don't mind the odd shandy every now and then 🙂
-
@siam Err, no.
My wife could name exactly two All Blacks when I said she had to name at least one to get her glass of wine last night. At least Brodie Retallick was number 1, as it should be. She couldn't name a single player by position though. Nor any non-Chiefs. She cares less than zero about it.
So if I watch women's rugby, it sure won't be because I've been "hen-pecked". If anything its me forcing her to watch games.
I'll watch women's rugby because I like to watch rugby. All rugby. From shitty Under 55 B teams up to ABs.

Says the guy who's summary of reffing women's rugby emphasizes fantasizing over the halfback's snatch. 😉
