Watching The Breakdown last night which I myskyed. AT the end they had a piece with 1014 Rugby guys and then the next show afterwards was the 1014 show.

It looked promising. My recording ended after 5 minutes in, but I have recorded a replay of it and will have a look later.

The part I was watching was the video anlysis which is so lacking in any NZ media. Like what The42 does.

P.s. Discovering The42 has been good for the video analysis, but as it is a blog format with comments on everything ....... by christ the population of unhinged cyclopses over there appears very high per capita.

Yeah i caught a bit of that 1014 show. Was very interesting what they were takking about. The part i saw was talking about the use of forward pods and showing how often our 10 and 15 are combining as play makers.

Thanks for pointing this out. I see they have a youtube channel with an analysis section that I might watch through.

Gregan was interviewed (from the car) on the Short Ball podcast this week, I thought it was really interesting to hear him talk about the loss of the Bledisloe back in 2003. Worth listening to this weeks episode if you don't normally catch this podcast.

@unite I must admit to being annoyed that they only spent three minutes on the Mitre 10 Cup!

I have a bit of catching up to do.

Season 3 - Episode 19 - Isa Naciwa on loyalty and how he knew it was time to hang up the boots
Scotty and Mils are joined this week by Isa Naciwa, all the way from Ireland, to talk his recent retirement and the legacy he's leaving on the game. They also discuss the Springbok's latest captaincy decision with Siya Kolisi, and how this may show the beginning of a new wave for South African rugby, and address claims that Mils the Oracle may not be the all-seeing-eye we so hoped he was.

Season 3 - Episode 20 - “You can never count a French team out”
Mils and Scotty join you from the rickety podcast studio one last time before The Short Ball gets a shiny new home.
This week they're here to discuss the past week in Super Rugby, including whether the Blues can rebuild their reputation and another loss for the Hurricanes. Producer Alice lets you in on the best vegetarian McDonald's order, and they of course focus their gaze on what they're expecting in the upcoming French test this Saturday at Eden Park.

Season 3 - Episode 21 - Were the French robbed on the weekend?
Scotty and Mils are back, but in a shiny new studio this time. They get Ali Williams on the phone to discuss Saturday's test, talk the newfound fire in the Aussies, and discuss how the ABs are looking as we get closer to the second French test in Wellington this weekend.

Season 3 - Episode 22 - What will the 11 changes to the ABs squad mean this weekend? June 20, 2018
Scotty and Mils are back with more commentary on the week in rugby. They chat about the red card awarded to Benjamin Fall on Saturday, was it fair? Their thoughts on the 11 changes made to the All Blacks team facing France this weekend. And they look around the world at the international competitions, who do the boys think will take out the AU vs. IRE series?

    Season 3 - Episode 23 - James McOnie’s been having dreams about Anton Lienert-Brown June 28, 2018
This week we've brought James McOnie off the bench to join Mils in studio. They talk about Jackson Hemopo's first test in the black jersey, the looming farewell of Jerome Kaino from the Blues, and the Highlanders are playing the Chiefs in Suva on Saturday, who's going to come home with the win?

Season 3 - Episode 24 - Wyatt Crockett stadium the perfect tribute to a legend of rugby July 4, 2018
Scotty is back after a flat tyre? a burnt turkey? meant he was absent last week. He and Mils talk about the Highlanders Chiefs clash in Suva and how the Highlanders could bounce back from that against the Crusaders this weekend.
They chat Wyatt Crockett and the role he's played in New Zealand rugby as he gears up for his 200th super rugby game.
And Scotty lays out what's on the line this weekend as the Super Rugby tables have the potential to get a huge shake up.

    Season 3 - Episode 25 - What’s got Scotty so fired up? July 11, 2018
Scotty and Mils join you from the podcast studio to talk about Wales' new appointment, their picks for the last round of the regular Super Rugby season, and something's ignited a fire in Scotty – what is it that's got him so riled up?

Season 3 - Episode 26 - TMOs and Assistant Referees need clearer, more consistent roles July 18, 2018
Scotty is joined this week by James McOnie in the podcast studio. They talk about the weekend's super rugby clashes as the final looms near, SANZAR's recent discussions about the role of the TMO, and Scotty thinks concussion still isn't being taken seriously.

    Season 3 - Episode 27 - Is home game advantage really a thing? July 25, 2018
Scotty and Mils are back and it's all smiles after the weekend's winning performances at the Rugby World Cup Sevens.
To Super Rugby, and as the semi-finals draw closer the boys pick their winners. Do the Hurricanes have a chance? Should the Lions and Warratahs hang up their kicking boots for a good old-fashioned game of bull rush?
And the boys have a message for the Hurricanes.

Season 3 - Episode 28 - Crusaders vs. Lions is the final we deserve August 1, 2018
Scotty and Mils look back on the Super Rugby season as it draws to a close and discuss the matchups for this weekend's final in Christchurch. Have people underestimated the Lions and do they have any chance against the immensely strong Crusaders side? Can Swys de Bruin break-dance? And the team discuss gift-giving ettiquette as producer Alice struggles with an anniversary present.

Season 3 - Episode 29 - An ode to the Crusaders and the 2018 Super Rugby season August 9, 2018
Scotty and Mils look back on the Super Rugby season of 2018. They talk Crusaders' keys to success, how the other New Zealand squads delivered results, and select their 2018 Super Rugby MVPs.

Season 3 - Episode 30 - What does the Bledisloe Cup mean for both teams? August 16, 2018
Scotty and Mils are back and joined on the phone by former Wallabies' captain and rugby great George Gregan to talk all things Bledisloe Cup. The boys also chat about the Black Ferns' Laurie O’Reilly Trophy match and the huge opportunity it is for Women's rugby, and the Mitre 10 cup approaches.

Just watched the 1014 show on sky, a stats-fest summary of TRC.

I was struck by their last slide, lineouts won, Sam Whitelock not even on the list of top 10. Not something they discussed.

Read was NZs top source, then S Barrett.

    Etzebeth a machine for SAF.

    Interesting.

I know we sometimes don't use our one of our locks at all in some tests , just to fuck with my head, but over 6 games where the hell did Sam W disappear to?

He didn't. I think it is simply due to our lineout strategies. Using Read so much offers a 'boy who cried wolf' situation with those marking Whitelock and BBB. At least we have the options to play with unlike a certain team in yellow...

A few years ago we would switch which one of our locks was a primary target.

One week Retallick would have 0 takes, next week Whitelock 0 takes, sort of thing. We can mix it up with 4 targets.

But. I'm still very surprised that over 6 games Sam Whitelock doesn't make a list where the cutoff is 9 takes. That's a very interesting approach.

tall lifters make a world of difference.

This is based on nothing than single watch, naked eye type analysis. But i think we throw to the front a lot more than most teams. And i think this is because the speed and width of Aaron Smith's pass allows us to use 2 or 3 ball as still good attacking ball, where as other teams feel the need to throw a bit deeper. And if you are throwing to the front you are often hitting your shorter jumper. I would actually like to go back and break down our lineouts in a test one day, but who has that sort of time?
