righto then, had a few days of no sprint fitness sessions, to see how the knee shaped up and I'm pleased to report that it feels good. I did, however, decide to walk to work from home on Saturday to pick up my car after a boozie Friday night, and this took an hour and 7 minutes.

Sunday also saw me down at Ballymore with my brother and his kids kicking the footy and playing a little game of tackle. During this time, had a few good sprints which didn't trouble my knee at all.

As result, I've given myself a medical clearance to have a game of footy tonight. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Will report tomorrow how it goes.

Knee was fine during the footy game, and managed to propel me to a mutiple-try performance in 1 hr of play. Pretty happy with that. However, it was this morning when I woke up and got out of bed that the slight twinges of pain in the knee returned to haunt me. I feel it may signal the end of my sprint training schedule, and time to devise a fitness regime that's less demanding the crucial kee joint(s). :nta

Will have to have a think about this one. Any training suggestions would be welcome, but they can't involve a gym, a bike, or a pool. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

    Go for a swim in the river <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Well given you get it during sprints it sounds like its not related to torsional pressure ie twisting or sideways moving within the joint. Sprints is generally up-and-down pressure or impact pressure on the joint. This therefore rules out jogging or sprinting if it keeps giving you grief. At that point, your options are: pool <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Nick, I wanted to avoid swimming because I hate swimming and I swim like Eric the Eel from the Sydney Olympics :shifty:

Being a tight fluffybunny, I don't want to fork out huge wads of cash for a bike, and even if I had a bike, I would have to cycle in traffic which is also not my cuppa tea. Maybe an exercycle would be something? Also, don't live near a gym, and don't really want to fork out money for memberships and shit either.

So I wanted to devise a plan I can do by myself without the above components. Yes, I know it appears that I'm coming up with reasons why not to exercise, but seriously I want to continue now that i do have a reasonable level of fitness and I've dropped 5-6 kgs.

Are there are circuit-type training methods that don't involve any advanced equipment?

Not really past what you're doing - ultimately you can't replace running with much else. If its joint impact that is producing the soreness then you have issues and I'd seek advice from a sports medico type of person.

Riding a bike in Brisvegas would suck arse. Too many hills <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

no cigar there Bart, I go to the beach on a lot weekends, but can't really concentrate my fitness efforts there, due to living an hour away from the beach. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Actually (on a slightly unrelated topic) when I was at Ballymore on the weekend kicking the footy around, the no 2 training oval there has been resurfaced and geez it's soft, would love to train on that, but it's a bit far away from home.

I've just swung an email through to a mate in Sydney who's a personal trainer, so I'll see what he's got to say on the issue. :nta

Thanks though lads <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Walk there on your hands! MvJ's exercycle cost $99 from K-Mart and works just fine. It's not rocket science. It is good exercise and it is zero impact. Well those are my experiences anyway.

yes....thanks, I'll look into this Captain Miller.

I have had something of a fall from grace with my fat busting exercise regime of late, but interestingly, got on the scales this morning and found I'v not put any weight on, and am still 95 kgs. I have been eating healthily still.

Touch footy tongight too, which'll be good.
played footy Monday night, and managed another solid multi-try performance, however I forgot to tighten up the screws on the sidelevers of my glasses, so my specs rattled around on my face as I ran flat out, making it difficult to see and catch the ball. I will fix this, as I don't want to appear to be a retard again next week. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Game went for an hour and a half, so was again shagged by the end.

Tonight I have tennis again, weather pending. Not looking too good with storm yesterday arvo, and predicted for this evening too.

holy shit...a week has passed since I did anything. That's fucking hopeless...just not good enough.

Played footy again last night for an hour and a half, thanks to 'last try wins' stretching about 20 minutes before finally some useless fuck let thier man through for the match winner. Anyway, I'm confident we'll play tennis this week as well, but I haven't had a chance to get onto my circuit training regime which was kindly supplied by my personal trainer brother-in-law. Will keep you posted.

Eating has been very disciplined though, and as a result, have been able to remain at 96 kgs. :coolsmiley:

one and a half hour game of tennis last night, and was hitting with great authority and retrieving everything while the 1st set unfolded. As the game wore on, I lost my form, and my temper, and ended up becoming involved in more than one code violation. Will attempt to keep my frustration in check next time.

Good run around though.

played an hour of footy on ANZAC Eve, and have tennis tonight.

Desperately need to get onto my circuits as prescribed by PT bro-in-law. Post-Easter report card says I'm almost totally devoid of discipline, though my eating habits are good enough that I'm still 96.5 kgs, which is sound. Belt is still quite loose, something the young ladies of Brisbane should find irresistible.

That is all.

Err... presume you have been horizontal fat-busting for the last week then Red Bull?

that is a novel way of putting it Miller. But it is horizontal, and it involves a fat. :shifty: 😁

No footy on Monday night due to the QLD Labour Day long weekend just gone, but I'm about to head off to tennis as I write this, so happy days for me, unless I again choke after 2 match points as I did last week. :sealedlips:

OK I'll admit I haven't been doing too much fatbusting of late, just the usual footy and tennis, and had a cracking good game of footy last night that went for an hour and 10 min. The ideal number showed up to have run, so with our team fielding 6 and the other team 7, we kicked their arses, with Red Bull putting the in-and-away to devastating use, and losing count of the tries I scored at 5. :coolsmiley:

The problematic knee is a little stiff and sore today, indicating that there's no way it could take repeated sprint training sessions like I was doing recently. But a game of footy and tennis once a week is good for it I think.

I swear I'll get into my circuit training routine any day now. My weight is still 96kg due to revised eating habits. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
