TR vs the future

<p>Up until Saturday, I have been trucking along, back doing circuit workouts, and really enjoying them!!</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Cleans, fr. squats, press ups, pull ups, planks = x 5 type thing</p>
<p> </p>
<p>But the whole family been down with a bug this week and I had a dose of something meaning I was off work sick for the first time in >5 years!</p> -
<p>being sick suuucks!</p>
<p> </p>
<p>After a week or so of doing nothing, I tried to do a workout on Saturday, struggled big-time, and despite itching to do soemthing, am not feeling right today still!</p> -
<p>I know what you mean bro - I had a 3-4 week run of flu and colds. My advice is to take a week off, not ideal but better than getting crook again. <span style="font-size:14px;">Hope you bounce back quick mate.</span><span style="font-size:14px;"> </span></p>

<p>Ha, I would. But I just read TR has rotator cuff issues, so he's excused....ironically, one of the reasons I do pull ups and dips is they strengthen my left shoulder which previously had pain whenever I'd try forward shoulder extensions-so pull ups help me, but hurt TR. Shit.</p>

<p>am still about...plenty of work to do here, little time (or room in garage at present to set my stuff up...have found a 9km loop run from my place so might give it a crack on the weekend for a change.</p>

<p>But lifting, moving, mowing (about 1000sqm of knee high grass and a push mower...luckily my awesome new neighbour bought his ride on over to loan me about half way through) shovelling wheel barrow load after wheel barrow load of gravel, moving and spreading and then the same with wood peelings foran hours and hours is gotta be good for me right?</p>

<p>Have some concreting of a clothesline and fencing to do over the next couple of days, and still more gravel paths to shape...</p>

<p>The pull up issues were under hand ones that hurt my rotator cuff, over hand are fine, I just suck at them :)</p> -
<p>Great stuff, I am pretty jealous of you living in such a beautiful area. I'd maximise the time spent enjoying the recreation possibilities, and have short intense workouts. I also don't feel comfortable doing chin ups-but for me it's my neck. Pull ups just seem to get everything into alignment.</p>

<p>I'd check some vids on youtube about that. Things like crossing your feet (like you might do on dips) can put your back out of alignment and cause you to tense up around the neck/shoulders. There might be a slight form change you can make to avoid that issue. Funny how much technique there is in body-weight exercises, get your form wrong and you can load the wrong areas or miss out on getting the most from the movement.</p>

<p>TR - you should concrete in a couple of posts with bars - so you've got a pull-up/muscle up bar ready to go! you could always hang a boxing bag on it too! </p> -
Haha, right now working out on my proprty is a bit exposed, once some trees and stuff get a bit of height maybe...

<p>it'll be the big swing I build that will have the 'extras' on it for pull ups and dips (TR jnr is keen to do pull ups and stuff, so no point holding him back) just how soon I get to that is the question!</p>

<p>hoping to finish putting up my garden shed tomorrow, which will mean I can get rid of a heap of sh!t from the garage, which in turn will free up space for me to set up my exercise equipment and hang my punch bag!</p>

<p>Been doing loads of 'labour' stuff, mowing, digging and making sh!t, so no doubt burning a few calories, but just aint the same as a workout (have still been running - sadly, the loop I fond, isnt really, is a paper road that doesnt actually exist)</p> -
Did a light arm and shoulder work out last Saturday and then did a decent cardio type one today, legs felt like jelly.<br><br>
A bit selective with exercises i am doing as I have had a bit of tennis elbow for about 2 months (hurt it before our move and then with moving, digging holes, making fences as well as other labour intensive stuff, it hasn't had a chance to heal) Been icing it daily and using a golf ball as a roller on the forearm muscle as well and it is making good progress. <br><br>
Need to get back on the road too as I have entered the tough mudder in April and will be looking to do the 17 or 22km coastal run in Takapuna/devenport in Feb as well. Both events don't require huge fitness as there are a number of chances to rest and recover, but require a decent level obviously. -
<p>Slow pace today in about 30deg heat with high humidity, even though I usually like running in heat.</p>

<p>Picked myself up a GPS watch and was good being able to see how slow I was and that I should have pcked up the pace if I had the energy :)</p>

<p>Map my Run has this same run as 5.81km, so deluded me into thinking I was quicker</p>

<p>The main problem was it's actually not hot. 30 degrees is only warm. You'll probably run faster when the weather heats up a bit more... </p>

<p>Yeah I did just feel flat even before, which was why I felt I needed a run anyway.</p>

<p>Anyway, this was my 3rd workout in the past week too, so getting back into it, and I also need to get the balls to climb up into the heated roof space and find exactly where the builders put the extra support for me to hang my punch bag :)</p>
