All Blacks v France Test 3

Commentary Highlight of the night
Marshy - "What a great start from Richie Mo'unga, he's nailed that a good 45 metres, with no real angle, All Black number 1167"
Nisbo - "do you remember your number?"
Marshy "I do"
Nisbo "Go on"
Marshy - "Yes I do, number nine hundred and forty (pause) TWO.
He is in fact number 948

Where to start....
As expected social media going off with bias calls to refs should use common sense and ignore the rules.

Tuppence worth first before reading the thread.
I preface this by saying memory may have been slightly impaired but ...
Good performance.
Difficult to pick on anyone but I'm sure Dmac will be as he is held to a different standard. As is SBW.
Dmac however I thought was excellent.
Those two my first picks for MOTM. Scott Barrett my 3rd although my abiding memory of him was that first pass ... ! After that though he seemed busy and physical.
Good to have a home town TV producer not show side on replay if Dmac's pass to Ioane.
I suppose that makes up for George overruling the on field ref who I'm pretty certain said he had a clear on field grounding. Fuck off George.
Marshall. Fuck he annoys me. What law did he want to invoke when the ref got in the way? It was unfortunate for the Frogs but it was just rugby. Stop fucking inventing stuff.
Re the noobs:
Goodhue looks the goods.
Frizell not out of place
Mo'unga ok
Coltman > HarrisBack to Dmac for a sec. It occurred to me that although Mo'unga is probably a better out and out 1st 5/8 Dmac is probably a closer like for like replacement for BB.
Will now read the thread and see how wrong I am.

That's pretty bad luck, was a good kick that found space.
Yeah but Dmac

There is no provision to bring a try back because a ref impedes a defender. Does not exist in the law book.
It should exist.
Thank Justin. But it doesn't

I repeat my usual whinge - a maul going backwards shouldn't be allowed two goes (didn't happen this time, but after going back 10 metres the ref said first stop). It's a stupid law, the defending team should be rewarded for good defence.
This. The maul had already stopped once.

Great first half from both sides before the inevitable.
DMac would walk into most sides either at 10 or 15
Nah. He did a 50m kick which rolled into touch in goal by a whole 1/2 a metre which is typical of his brain-farts. He need to focus on becoming as accurate, consistent and disciplined as SBW or Nonu c. 2006.

Consecutive posts. Agree with both:

Did we ground that one?!?
Not sure, but Whitelock knocked it on in the boot of the scrum in the lead up...
I don't think he did. Looked to me like he just passed it into his players legs and then recovered the ball. I didn't see a knock on. That said, Lacey should have checked (assuming it was within 2 phases)

Ayoub fucks up 2 tries in a minute there
I’m not as convinced as the commentary that Whitelock knocked that on. It went backwards off a trailing leg
Re Bolded bit: Was same phase.

@victor-meldrew DMac is a very mixed bag. Two intercepts, some mixed kicking options, poor kick off, plus some great running. Still doesn’t look to setup players outside him but very good at beating defenders.
Tough audience

@kirwan Yep, because Dmac is Hansen's pet project.
Nothing like hanging onto preconceived ideas ...

@shadowtrooper I'd like to see Cane and Todd with Taufua at 8.
And no lineout ball.

Did remind me though. Is Franks that bad at taking the ball up that they have just given up on working with him? He's dropping to the floor at the slightest hint of a tackle and never attempts any kind of leg drive. Surely the coaches can improve that easily?
I remember chatting with old fern mate Red Beard about this. It is a mystery why someone so strong in the gym ( particularly at Olympic style lifting ) has all the impact of a fly hitting a windshield when taking the ball up. If it hasn't improved by now I doubt it ever will.

One and only thing i will say about the ref/tmo: The Frizzell no try was bulkshit. Sure if the ref goes upstairs and says can you see a grounding? And the tmo can't see it you don't give the try. But when the ref said he saw it you don't interrupt then overturn the call because you aren't sure if he got it or not. There was no clear held up just like there was no grounding. So go with the refs call ffs.
Also the NZ anthem was aweful. I hate the slow warbling opera types.
Not sure if intentional but awesome word invention.

Also excellent 'Cockwomble' sign in the crowd
Quoted so it gets more attention

Haha, dammit. That happens when your finger tip is the width of 3 keys on a phone. I've probably done it so many times my phone has given up trying to correct me.
I think bulkshit is a pretty good word actually.
"A large quantity of shit" -
@booboo tough but fair. He is such a talent. He came good in the last 30 or so minutes when game opened up. Not bad before that, but would like to see him make earlier and better running and passing decisions, and run a game in the first half when things are tight. Hate the way we writeoff players who make a mistake and then laud them when they score a try.
-
would it be a good idea to have the same ref do each test rather than change each week?
-
I was really happy with DMac. That’s what you want to see when the heat is on him in that position. Made similar mistakes that B.B. makes and when hot he was unstoppable.
Stoked for him.
But Scott Barrett. Wow. If we can keep him, Whitelock and Retallick fit for World Cup we will be unstoppable if SB keeps that sort of form.
