I hope WR was thorough and viewed all camera angles.
They did (3 different video files) and also listened to the referee's microphone audio.

Well thank god that was the limit. I was thinking they might have summoned the Mum to the boardroom. An hour later they emerged saying āSix weeks. It was clearly malicious as she looks completely different in that situationā.

I am still struggling to believe this is real? Fucking 6 weeks?
6
SIX
WEEKS!!!!
For a bit of abuse. And not even bad abuse. Like, generic, mum-joke abuse. It wasn't even that good, and could have easily been countered in a way that would have made the saffer look like a cock in front of his mates.
6 fucking weeks.
Imagine what the Mariner 2nd rower would have got when he told that idiot from port Douglas "the best part of you ran down your mum's leg". Even the fucking ref laughed.

Six weeks is excessive, Iād have given him a week, tops. But, I can see where these are ājuniorsā and World Rugby wants to set an example - thereās always been sledging but they donāt want this in the sport, they donāt want to see it emulated by schoolboy players knowing thereāll only be a week suspension and they want to stamp it out, and if it is an example and it sends a message to schoolboys that this wonāt be tolerated, I wonāt be too disappointed. My grandparents stood on the sidelines in cold rain on Saturday mornings and afternoons to watch games I played in, and if theyād even seen that sort of garbage during one of my games they would never have come back. World Rugby wants to get out in front of it and send a message. Iām not one for political correctness, but this doesnāt unduly upset me.
-
I can't believe he got six weeks. Did anyone who assaulted the GOAT ever get that? How many weeks for calling someone a fat fluffybunny or ugly?
Maybe it's just my sense of humour, but I find that shit hilarious. If he'd said that to me I would have pissed myself. Ultimately it's a farking tough game where you're beating the living shit out of each other for 80 minutes. Niggle and sledging will be involved. Maybe a talking to after the game would be ok, but a six week suspension? How utterly ridiculous.

Exactly. He left himself wide open for a retort. For example.
"Is that how your mother does it?"
"That's impossible, you don't have a cock."
"As if any woman would suck the cock of a fat, inbred looking fluffybunny like you."
"Maybe the protest came because they were so ashamed that not a single one of them could offer a decent comeback.

Six weeks is probably too long - but lets leave the wankerish sledging in cricket.
It's been a front row tradition for ever. This isn't some new thing that has just started

Pffft, like any front rowers have the mental capacity to come up with a retort, let alone the original sledge.
But to be serious for a second, racial taunting used to be a part of that tradition too ... I'm pretty sure it isn't now.

I would question whether it was "part of that tradition" although in my (admittedly) limited experience playing in Australia the overwhelming number of race-based taunts were from brown people to white people. We also had an Asian half back who copped it big time.
At any rate, there is a massive difference between mamma insults and racial slurs.

Why? If an excuse for it is because it's "tradition", then part of that tradition was racially sledging, pretty short bow I would think.
I just don't see what it adds to the game?

Where is your evidence that there was a "tradition" of racial sledging?

It's not even in the same ball park. Ignore rugby for a second, abuse/banter between guys is just part of growing up.
It's important to learn how to deal with it, and not "cry to mommy".
The best response to shit talk is to win the game/smash them in a tackle (second is theoretical from my point of view...)

the beauty of rugby. someone is taking the piss? the opportunity for physical, often violent, retribution is never far away.
Where's your mouth now c*nt!!!

@kirwan haha my sons team a couple of weeks back got a lesson in talking smack, and ended up being the point where the other team got the upper hand.
A couple of our bigger and better players came off upset over what the other team was saying to them and calling them (especially when it wasn't even that bad)...their dads and I were like why is that upsetting? If you knock him on his arse in the next tackle, you simply stand over him grinning, no better retort!
Don't get mad, get even!
It aint like people in life don't take any opportunity to step on people, so is a good place to learn to deal with shit.
