@barbarian when the revolution comes, RUPA will be first against the wall.
DOWN WITH NEOLIBERALISM!
Neoliberalism? That shit is the definition of crony capitalism.
-
@rancid-schnitzel Given RA and RUPA are basically joined at the hip in financial terms, its close enough.

Brad Weber hosts a new podcast with Michael Allardice and are clearly good friends... isn't Allardice the one who got in trouble for using the homophobic slur at the pool?
And who says that he hasn't talked to Allardice about this in private?
You're asking people to prove a negative. Why didn't he discuss the issue with Israel at the next available opportunity? Or wasn't social media invented when Allardice was being a dick?
As to the future contractual status of Folau going forward; he's hardly likely to be the front of a Qantas Wallabies rainbow advertising campaign now. And why would you give the most amount of money to a bloke that hardly touches the ball in games?

Weber would likely have been with Allardice when he made those comments and is in the same team so could discussed with him straight away. Folau is not a team mate of Weber's, he's just another player who made comments that Weber disagrees with.
Folau made his opinion publicly so why is there an issue with Weber making his opinion public?

Weber would likely ... so could ...
Remarkably easy to construct the narrative to suit. rolleyes.jpg

I don't have an issue with Weber getting on social media and saying what he wants. But didn't Fallardice didn't make his announcements in public..?

@nepia Exactly, and the Chiefs only play the Tahs on 26 May. He'd have to wait way too long.
He waited until yesterday...

@antipodean TBF, if I hear something someone has said and makes me think they are the biggest cnut about, I'd not bother speaking to them at all, why should I confront them about it (unless they were a friend)
Has Pocock said anything (or has he been muzzled) given he was pro-Gay Marriage, and he will have (and has) to play in the same team as him....surely other players Folau plays with are at complete odds with his stance.
I really cant see a way back (in Aus Rugby) for Folau from here, he has taken a pretty strong stance in opposition of a subject that is touchy as it is.
My guess is he will head to Europe (although NRL is an option too) Aus will lose one of their best rugby players and the Silver Ferns will lose their best netballer...

FFS man, are you just being a dick or do you really think Allardice making inappropriate comments to his teammates which are overheard by the public is similar to posting comments on social media?

Lets try a different tack on this: if people overhear/ read the same comment, explain the difference as you see it.

Can't be arsed discussing this if you think talking to your mates and sending a comment out via a public social media app is the same thing.

FFS. I give you an opportunity to explain why you see them as being different and you take the time to write a response doing anything but. The point isn't that Allardice said something to his mates, it's that the public heard it. The same public that could read Folau's bigotry.

I think you underestimate the Islander fraternity in Aussie rugby. There seems to be a group within the Wallabies that stick/stuck pretty tight - Folau, Kepu, Kuridrani, Kerevi, Timani, Naiyaravoro, Nabuli, Palu and Tomane amongst others.
The vast majority are very religious - doing pre/post game prayer circles, writing bible verses on strapping etc.
I wonder if Pocock (or any other Wallaby) realises that a Weber-esque statement could risk alienating a fair chunk of his team-mates, who look up to Folau both on and off the field.
I think it's a reason that RA haven't come down hard on Folau, as they realise just how many of their players share his views.

I doubt either gave much thought to the extended unintended audience.

Sweet. So be a raging homophobe with your mates, even attack any of them that are gay. All A-OK. But make a comment reciting the bible on social media and you've got hell to pay.
I'm surprised you are defending Allardice.

@barbarian never got the impression Pocock cared greatly about what people thought of him, but felt strongly about expressing his opinions on what he believed in...

Where did I say that it's all okay? And where did I defend Allardice? Oh, right, I didn't!
You say that Weber is not virtue signaling despite the obvious difference in the way he handled both events. And to back that up, your saying that the reason he didn't take a big virtuous public stance over Allardace is because Allardice's words were not meant to be overheard, whereas Folau recited a verse from the bible on social media.
Did I get that right? So only take a public stance if someone is displaying homophobic behaviour on social media, but not if they do it in other parts of life despite it being overheard and widely reported?
Edit - and don't try and tell me Weber couldn't send Folau a private message. That's absurd.
Edit #2 - anyway my point was that Weber's comments are clearly just bullshit virtue signaling, and it took about 5 minutes for someone to unearth his hypocrisy. Not worth debating that any further as it's more just an opinion.
