Jo Edwards comes from behind to win GOLD in the Women's bowls singles.
Really enjoyed this match despite the loss.

Our boy Joel Makin couldn't see home his early advantage and ended up losing 3-2 to your boy Paul Coll in the squash SF.
Great effort seeing there were 36 ranking points seperating them - Coll 7th in the world, Makin 43rd.
Coll will have to play a damn sight better to win the gold

@mikethesnow It was an absolute cracker. The words 'oh you bitch' when Laura Davies sent down a perfect bowl left my lips too many times to count. I honestly thought Jo was done when she was down 15-10.

i have nevee really given two shits about netball. I grew up with brothers, mum didnt play, all my cousins are boys and my daughter prefers dance and gymnastics. So aside from playing a bit of indoor its always been boring as batshit for me. However I have had friends with gfs and wives that play and have had the odd discussion about age grade. The major talking point for all of them was the "in crowds". Girls not getting to play because their mum isnt fiends with the coach. Girls arent friends with othee girls on the team so they dont get to play. Stupid politics fron the start all the way up to senior. Its always been like that in most sports but its worst in Netball in NZ, so I have been told. Its turning girls off the sport in great numbers apparently. Is any of this true??

I wouldn't consider myself a huge netball fan either. But I do like to see all NZ sports doing well. The problem is that netball is shooting itself in the foot as it fights for relevancy in womens sport in NZ. Losing twice in 3 days to Jamaica equalled the total losses in history between the two nations. England is now beating NZ regularly, which never happened before, and the gulf between NZ and Aust continues to grow since they went their separate ways.
Netball is meant to be the premier womens sport in NZ but they would be foolish to take that position for granted. Forgetting about the rise in popularity in womens rugby, if a young girl is given a choice between netball and basketball they would be stupid to choose the former. Basketball is a worldwide game and would offer them an education in the US via a scholarship and opportunities over the world if good enough. There is a long list of girls doing just that.

..and Hubbard in the weightlifting!
She's taking some heat from her opponents too, and fair enough. I hope she doesn't get a medal. I don't mean to be nasty, but it's not fair on the other athletes.
-
Yeah I understand that position.
I hope Hubbard wins gold. I want to see how well the new orthodoxy is policed. It should be revealing. I'm sure someone on radio/tv will say something considered wrong.
-
@Duluth Hah, yes, that would be very interesting. I've changed my position, and bought a big bag of popcorn.
-
Nasty.
Reality of her lifting with the women is that she was in her own competition anyway - her first lift was 7kg more than the best lift of the next best competitor.
How do you deal with all this if you're a sports administrator?
I reckon you allow transgender athletes and blade-runners etc to compete with the other athletes, but you have extra medals. e.g. If Laurel wins overall then she gets a gold, but so does the first natural born woman. If she comes second she gets a silver, but so does the person who comes third. If she comes fourth she gets nothing - like everyone else.
-
Just looked at the results. Wouldnt zhe have won based on that one lift? Or do you physically have to make every attempt? Obviously I have no idea, but zhe had the best snatch (chortle snort) by miles and was second in the clean and jerk.
-
@rancid-schnitzel I wasn't watching, but wasn't it her third attempt in the Snatch? That is what stuff is reporting.
