    @no-quarter

    Although 2 of Astle's 3 wickets were from short and/or wide deliveries. They all count though.

    The pressure told and they made mistakes

    Good to win a test with nothing but guts, heart and skill

    True but he created quite a few chances.

    David Lloyd said it was a good pitch. We batted just fine, Stokes Root and Woakes all batted fine. Most of the crucial wickets in the final innings were forced by our bowling, our aggression and menace. Brilliant

    I'm not saying Astle didn't bowl well, he did, just that there was a touch of irony that two of his worst deliveries took wickets. Likely the eyes of the batsmen lit up.

    Great win.

    Got the declaration spot on, too 🙂

    I wondered if they should have picked Sodhi ahead of Astle, but Astle nailed it when it counted.

    @donsteppa

    I see Sodhi took 7/30 and 5/32 vs Wellington at the Basin.

    Would love to see us take both Sohdi and Astle into a match, but that is likely a pipe dream.

    That's a brilliant win.

    So many contributors - Boult, Southee, Astle, Wagner, Williamson and Nicholls - that is more than half the side.

    Oh and not acting like fuckwits like a certain other test side.

    Good job.

    Great stuff.

    Why tarnish things by mentioning Oz ? This is a fantastic test win without any pathetic little brother shit....

    Even the 'weaker' players in this team are pretty bloody good.

    Can anyone guarantee @booboo isnt watching or listening in at the moment?

    Funnily enough ....

    ... I walk in from work and Waggie gets Woakes first ball I see 🙂 ...

    ... walk out for quick comfort stop walk back in and half a second later Anderson gets out ...

    Again. It's all down to my timing.

    You're welcome.

    Really enjoyed that game - nothing like last day tension and a team that looks like hanging on. England managed to lose a wicket in the final over before a break in 3 consecutive sessions, that's criminal if you're trying to save the game.

    Wagner once again showing why he has that 3rd seamer spot locked up - Henry is good with the new ball but Boult and Southee already have that covered, Wagner is the old ball specialist.

    Kane pretty much got it spot on with the declaration - declare too early and England would have taken a lead and that changes the whole tone of the game when you're trying to save it. In hindsight he bowled C de G too long but the bugger kept beating the bat.

    From an England point of view, some very disappointing shots played by players who should know better. What was Bairstow thinking? Worked really hard to get himself out. Moeen never looked like he wanted to bat time. At least Stokes dug in and by the end was sore and worn out when he played that shot to get out. Still dumb though to be playing that shot with the dinner break ahead and a change to refresh.

    The tension was even greater given it was a day-night test. By 4pm it felt like we were running out of time and should have been close to a result but in reality there will still up to 60 odd overs still available over the last two sessions

    Yep. Still can't get my head around it, when England were 6 down at 'dinner' I thought they'd sneak a draw.

    Just read that Astle is out with injury for game 2, Ish called up.

    Poor guy gets no luck at all. Still, excited to see what Sodhi can do because I think he's the best prospect to be out number one test spinner.
